Just got back from there this evening...... I fished the shore and picked up a 3 lb largemouth on a home made jig. Also had two muskies on and off, but that was it.
Once again, lots and lots of people using whole perch for bait and gut hooking the crap out of the muskies. One Asian kid that I talked to had caught three on perch, and when I told him that it was illegal, not to mention makes a much higher mortality rate for the muskies, he really didn't seem to care. He said he'd be back there tomorrow PM doing it again. I thought about calling the DNR, but I doubt they'll do anything about it. [mad] [signature]

Never known Newton to be much up on enforcement. Watching kids shooting bottle rockets from the rope swing at passing boats/skiers. Did hear of DNR calling over boats, then giving them tickets for being to close.
Whole perch, live perch? Most I've seen there, you cut em in half, and you're probably good. I gather the water is waaaay low - and that's gotta congest those beasts, and the bigger bass. Pretty territorial to start with, Was all psyched up to hit early morning Pineview, but chickened out for the sake of honey-do catchup., BUT Tomorrow am - early - for sure! Guess I'm still tossed between Newton - where I've been, or Pineview - where I've never (yet) been. Both with Musky and Bass (and perch - I do like perch). My boy was gonna come, but after thrashing his chin on the driveway, he's on a break. So if you see a little green flatbottom - gimme a wave. Be glad to have ya jump on board. Honestly - boating a tiger solo - is a might intimidating. Story from Newt - some shore fishers, after tying a few on - one hooks up a musky, brings it in, trips, falls, gets wet trying to get it, lift, flops loose. Ready to cut the line - let 'er go. Another insists - HE can get that lure out. Reaches in, Musky clamps down, . . . well, . . blood flows.... yaaa kids, that's why there's a warning label! Don't try this at home! Fish On! [signature]

I have actually heard of a few folks getting tickets for fishing with perch, I know a local fish and game officer that spends quite a bit of time out there. If people are hurting the fish and doing it illegally I don't think it would hurt to nofify fish and game. We need to protect the Muskies!!
