Had to renew my drivers license today and since I was at a county office figured I'd try and get some info on the Ririe passes. Initially I was pleasantly surprised. They are already on sale! You can get them at the county commisioners office and they said from the parks and rec office but that sounded a little weird to me, but who knows. Anyway I headed over to grab one before they ran out. I get there and was told there is no limit on them this year! That is where the good news ended. They then asked if I wanted a summer or winter pass. That's right, not an annual, although you can buy both to achieve that goal. I made a half serious joke to the clerk that they probably divided the seasons and left the price the same as the old price for each season. She then said that the fees went us "a little". She then told me what that meant. $30 for a winter pass good from November 1 through Aparil. Not too surprising. But the summer pass, good from May 1 through October is $60! ![[Image: surprised.gif]](http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/surprised.gif) Or I could buy both now and it was only $75. Either way, I kind of felt a 150% price increase on an annual pass was a bit much [mad]. I ended up just getting the winter one and I'll pay as I go next summer.

what the heck? [mad][mad] i know im not gonna be buying one this year but still erks me a little. do you think that the increase in money will mean they will take better care of the park in the winter? i think not. last year the roads were hardly ever plowed garbage cans were well over full and the toilet was unspeakable. does anybody think a call to park and rec to tell them that the increase in price for usage should come with the increase of caretaking for the area would hurt?

i think a call would definetly be worth it. upping the fees would be ok by me if they would have staff to do the things noted above or adding restrooms or if they just wanted the cash. Then they should know that ppl already arnt happy with the way things have been handled

A 200 percent price increase is really gouging. That is pretty on their part! I will be making a call to let them know that is completely unreasonable. ![[Image: angry.gif]](http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/angry.gif)

Wow for that price I am expecting tripleply Charmin and a heater in that bathroom! I only ice fish it and I will be walking from the top; I pay fees when they are worth it, and I will walk a little extra if they are not! I am really sorry for you year rounders; for $75 they better have cleaning stations and someone taking stats year round to better the fishery and boat ramp. I am really sorry guys!

I heard this second hand so take it at that. But I was told they charge you even if you park on top and ride your 4 wheeler down the ramp.

Yeah, you would have to park out on the road and walk in through the last gate before it starts downhill to avoid the charges. People do it all summer long.

Looks like I will not be ice fishing at Ririe this year, or fishing next summer. I am done with places like that, and the people who run it can KMA.

I'm not sure a call would make a difference but it might make you feel better. I'm sure they'll tell you the same thing I was told when I asked some of those questions. "They had a public hearing on this that was posted in the newspaper but nobody showed up". I admit that I don't get the paper, but I find it hard to swallow that no one saw the announcement.

I'm thinking if they can get away with raising the fees this steeply they will most certainly raise the day fees. They have to pay for all those flowers down town. ![[Image: beaten.gif]](http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/beaten.gif)

Belasko and all,
Some fees are small and not worth complaining about. This does not fall into that category however. I don't live close and don't know enough secrets to justify the annual fee but will have to cough up the daily fee (probably 5 to 10 bucks) a few times each year. If I did live closer and fished it more, I would be fuming.
One of my gripes with this sort of thing is that it is double taxation. They hit us boat owners when we register and that money is supposed to go to the county in which we say we do the most boating. That should cover it.
My hunch is that any second set of fees goes primarily to running the fee operation. There is a cost for the gates, the employees at each gate, the administration of the operation, the envelopes etc. I would like to see the break-down of where the money goes because it is my guess that we are paying for the privilege of paying (if you get my drift).

At this point I am fuming a bit still and I've had about 24 hours to simmer down. At this point I'm trying to find some contact info for the County people that may be able to tell me when the announcement in the paper was (specific date) so that I can check if it was there. I also plan to tell them that a 200% increase is ridiculous. Not sure if it will have any effect, but maybe if enough of us voice our concern they may listen. If anyone else finds email contact info for the county commissioners or knows of the announcement for that public hearing, I'd love to know about it. I'll definitely share it here if I can find it.

I just did a google search for Ririe fee increase and found this link.
http://www.localnews8.com/news/23312081/detail.html
Apparently they did announce that there would be a public meeting and there was an email address to send comments to. Too bad they did about a good a job of publicizing it as they do cleaning to pit toilets. Channel 8 was the only news source that I found that knew about it (or at least came up on an internet search). Still doesn't change my mind that the fee increase is excessive and I'll definitely let my opinion be heard now that I know about it.

As for the public meeting, I dont remember exactly when it was, but I posted the first notice on the meeting last year, I think early in the spring and even posted the link to the post register article. I posted it on here and if i remember correctly, there was a lot of discussion on it. Not that i support or fish ririe a lot, but it just ****** me off that they were considering this action from the couple times I did fish Ririe.
If I can find the post I'll bring it back up guys.
Look at the thread below this one guys, I found it and brought it back up so everyone can see what took place. Good luck changing it now. This is like everything else, we all will complain on forums like this and vent, but, as Ive seen on many many issues that pertain to protecting and having an impact on what we all like to do with our resources in Idaho, we never show up to meetings or submit any comments for or against what is happening. maybe this should be a good lesson to everyone, make your comments heard and stand up for what you believe. If no one shows, then it is assumed that what is proposed is good.
This same thing is happening now with the proposed guiding for waterfowl in Idaho and the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board (OGLB) is considering this and a final report is going to be given to the OGLB and F&G Commissioners in January. But believe me, I have made comments and attended meetings on this and against it, but as in this case, if you dont do anything, dont complain later.
I tried to give everyone heads up on what was happening, but, apparently no one took the time to do anything about it. And i didnt go or do anything because I really dont care about Ririe myself, I think ive been there 3 times in almost 20 years so I didnt do anything, but maybe I should have too just for the input.
Good luck everyone!!!
