Cottontail Help Please
#1
I would like to take my kids out to shoot a couple of cotton tails for dinner. Anyone know of a reliable area near Rexburg where I could look?

I went out on the deseret by the dump, but didn't see anything.

I was thinking maybe out by Mudlake.

I've actually been seeing a few on the river bottoms when I was bow hunting deer late season 2 weeks ago. East of Rigby, kinda by twin bridges. Rabbit shooting is a fun way to get kids in to hunting, good luck and have fun with your kids!

No idea about Rexburg area, but I know they are all over the Sterling WMA and surrounding areas.

Next time you go to Mackay ice fishing throw in the .22's. Hunt the Mackay side around the base of Willow Creek Summit. You can eat fried rabbit while the kokes are smoking.[cool]

Thanks for the help guys. I may have to go a little further away from Rexburg to find them.

FYI--- there are quite a few cottontails out west of rexburg if you go in the right place. Head out towards the big sand hill west of the north butte and drive around the rock piles. It is much better if the sun is peeking through the clouds and the wind in light. I've been out there a couple of times and have gotten quite a few each trip without trying too hard. The last time the rabbits seemed a little more jumpy than usual, but the sun wasn't out very good also. It also may be that there have been more people out looking for them also.

Notice a few at Chesterfield so when you head there don't forget the 22.
