Contaminated Augers
#1
I have a question. Isn't it just as bad to use an auger at Electric Lake or Red Fleet and then go to another lake that is not cotaminated and use it again the same day? I am not a biologist but if the mussels and snails can get into a boat's bilge system then why cant they get transported by augers or am I missing something? Witnessed this at Huntington over the weekend.

From what I know, I have heard mussels freeze quite easily.........maybe thats why????

Now if a guy is going from lake to lake, same day or keeping an auger in a garage/back of suv or similar that might be a concern (Im sure many people do)

I do not believe the augers are of much concern in spreading the invasive species. The augers do not take water internally where it could be protected from sub-freezing temperatures. Even a few minutes at the current temps and the mussels and their larval stages would be killed by freezing. It would still be a good idea to clean water and other debris off the auger if it is stored in an area protected from freezing.
I know my garage has been below freezing lately with our sub zero temps here in Price.

Just use common sense.
If you have drilled in infested waters, clean and dry your auger.

Sound advise. Zebra can freeze , but Quagga are a little more use to cold. Lake Erie with water temps of 40°. Plus both can survive 3 to 5 days. That is on record, off the record, I say anything is possible.

Just clean it, simple, and easy.

I'm not the one who did it. I was talking to a fisherman who came from Electric Lake and then I seen him using his auger at Huntington.

why would you want to shoot them?

there are NO zebra muscals in E-lake.. the DWR GOT A FALSE POSATIVE on 1 test.. the lake and area has been paying the price for it ever sense.. out of 10 tests after the posative they have never got any DNA or found any sign of muscals in the lake at all!!

and word from the DNR last year was it is going to be deemed muscal free the first of this year..

now tell me again why you would want to kill someone for fishing E-lake and huntington in the same day????

Just posting a question. Don't get your pant--s er waders all twisted up in a knot. Literally didn't want to kill the guy. Figure of speech. People are too serious on here. No I don't check the DWR's web site, just going off what everybody has posted before. Don't lose you cool.
And I'm definitely not a know it all. That's why I posted.

well check the DWR and the DNR web site's and any other publcation they put out.. no were is in stated the augers are a problem..

and as anal as they are being with the muscals i'm sure if they thought it was going to be a problem. they would have some poor DNR bugger up there washing off the augers with a steam clener.. [sly]

a big wast of money and time..

send them to redfleet and sandhallow where they are needed!!

I am sorry I joked with you rancid...OMG! I really didn't think that could be taken seriously. I guess I was wrong and won't do that again.

I for one don't think it is a waste of anything, carelessness is the waste.
These days, I don't think one can be too careful

So you guys are basically saying, if you don't see it, then don't worry about it till you do? A little after the fact then.
I am just asking though

You're fine. Alot of things on here are taken out of text and way too serious but then again there is way valuable information on here and I don't mind sharing any. But alot of people look at everything under a microscope and are quick to point anything out what they believe is wrong. I'm not condeming them for anything now, they have the right to their opinion. Everyone just needs to mellow out.

no what i'm saying is if there are no muscales in E-lake and the DWR and the DNR know it! why keep makeing the fishermen and public in genreal beleve that there is?

if your fishing redfleet or sandhallow then ya need to worry.. they have found muscales in both of them..

but not E-lake!! no muscales anywhere or have they found any DNA other then the one test! the first test came out positive.. all the rest have been negtive!!!! 1 test in 4 years and the first test come up with something that they did not know was there so they hit the panic button.. ok safe not sorry! now it;s just stupid to keep it up just to panic the public!!!!
