A couple co-workers and myself ditched work on Friday to take the 3 1/2 hour trip to Flaming Gorge. Well, it started out not so fun. We purchased our stamps at the Game & Fish, then planned on hitting an area we did fairly well at for mack pups last year around Lost Dog. Bad idea... the road had not been plowed, and we went down a little ways to an area where the few vehicle that had gone down this direction veered to the left to avoid the snowdrifts. Well, not too far past that, the driver asked the guy riding shotgun (neither was me[]) if the area just to the right was the road, so he could get back on. Passenger said yes (but was referring to the area about 15 feet to the right, not 2 feet). Needless to say, in the nice snow bank drift we go. After an hour or so of digging out the truck, we were just about back on track when some nice guys came and helped pull us out. Plan B, checked out areas from Buckboard to Holmes Crossing. Ended up fishing the Holmes Crossing area. Fishing was pretty slow in general as for the whole trip. We had decent spurts of action for burbot, but all in all not too fantastic. Anyways, for the fishing on Friday afternoon into the night, and Saturday morning until noon, we caught 16 burbot for 12"-25 1/2" and 2 pups at 22" and 25".
Nice to get back out to the Gorge, hoping for a little better luck next time.
