Cascade Sweet Experience
#1
First and foremost I want to thank Iwantabuggy for his amazing reports this winter. It gave me the desire to fish for these legendary perch, and my experience on Sun 2-27-11 is one I will never forget with my son. I made the 6-7 hour drive on Saturday and made contact with Iwantabuggy and he gave me some good insights. I will not mention the spot I fished, as I see the importance of PMs, however, i will say I actually enjoyed the long walk out I was in a snowglobe effect and it was quite peaceful. The perch fishing was no where near fast, but finally after four misses and one lost pole; yes these perch can steal poles, my son got a nice 13 inch perch, twenty minutes later I landed my frist 13er. I was pumped and was determined to spend the day. By the end we iced 16 perch with 10 being jumbos. Although it was a slow day it was so worth it. Yes even the $250 motel-gas tag made it worth it. At 4:30 we called it a day and drove up to Gold Fork Hot Springs ($8 Adult $6 11 and under) This place was the cherry on top and if you travel long distances like we did add this treat to your experience.
This trip really added to my fishing experiences for three days I just talked, fished, watched wildlife, and soaked with my kid. Nothing seemed to matter but that[Smile]

Best,

Hey! That's my spot! I recognize the parking area in the background. Glad you had a good time. Looks like you did a lot better than I did on Saturday. Aren't those 13+'s awesome! Wish I could have met up with you. I had a funeral in Utah on Monday, otherwise, I'd have been there.

Wow!! I'm glad someone from our side of the state got over there this year. Here's hopein that the fish are around next season so I can get a crack at them. Good Job.

Those are nice perch. Are there two different strains in that lake, or would the little ones grow up to be jumbo's as well. Where are the bucket biologists when you need 'em?[sly] Sure like to see some like that on this side of the state.

Dang! I could never put a Krispy Kreme on a hook -- it wouldn't get past my mouth. I thought I recognized a certain resemblance in those perch. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Just a FYI-- The good things happening at Cascade with the perch are a result of two things. first the Fish and Game made a determined effort to reduce the numbers of Northern pike minnows ( I sure have a hard time not calling them Squaw fish). They reduced their numbers by about 3/4. also between 2004 and 2006 they planted 850,000 adult perch, mostly brought from Phillips Res. near Baker , Ore. the results of this effort are the good numbers of jumbos seen last year and the outlook for 2011 looks good. I will be trying for some of them in late May after it warms up.[fishin]

I wondered why their bellies were so round-they must have at least two Krispy Creme donuts inside! [Wink]
