WHITE BASS SPAWN - UL
#1
The spawn should be this week. Anyone know? Also, I presume the cats would be mullin around cuz of the eggs.

The white bass spawn usually seems to peak at about the same time as the lilacs are in full bloom. If that hold true this year we are still a couple of weeks away.

In my experience it depends on water temperature. If we get enough sun on the water to get to the magical 58-62 degrees, it will be on. Seems like the females move in first and then the males run in. You may be able to find some moving into the shallows later in the day when the sun has had a chance to warm up the water. You can also try fishing the tributaries starting this Saturday at 6 am.

It's not time yet. I just fished one of the tribs (lunch break spot) on the east side of the freeway and there was no sign of any honkies.

When they're running, they'll be thick in there and on my line almost every cast.

Yes, every cast and sometimes a bare hook will do the trick [Wink]

This is true. [Wink] Hopefully I can get more video of that this year.

Remember, that (according to my old geography/meteorology textbooks) that the angle of the sun in the sky has a lot to do with those lake temps. I don't think it's time yet, either. I expect most things to be late this year, and it's going to be hard to predict when with all the rain, clouds, snow melt and all, BUT.......

I have a hunch that as soon as it stops clouding and raining for just a few days, shallow lakes like UL will warm quickly and it'll happen fast.

[cool][#0000ff]The lengthening daylight hours cause the eggs and milt to ripen in the fish. But they do not begin to spawn until temperatures are warm enough to insure that their eggs will hatch quickly. That will be between 60 to 65 degrees.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]FWIW...there are some white bass being taken near Lindon and the Provo Harbor...and the males are dripping milt. The fish are ready. A few warm days and it will be ON. But don't look for the males to present bouquets of lilacs to the females.[/#0000ff]

No but those males will offer plenty of skim milk hahahahahaha[Wink] By the way, still got quite a few female eyes last week with solid egg masses. Many females have spawned but some obviously won't this year. Too cold. They will reabsorb those sacks it looks like since it's too late to spawn for them now.

[cool][#0000ff]Interesting about the unspawned mama eyes. But I guess they are no different than most other species. Some spawn on time and others don't. This year was a wierd weather one and I guess some of the girls kept waiting for better conditions to "go to the prom". Girls can be like that.[/#0000ff]
