the Wolftever Kid, CHICKAMAUGA, CRAPPIE, 5/8/11, DAVID
#1
David and I put in at 9:15 at WT ramp. We stayed on the main river all day. We worked docks with
1/32 oz. jigs with BG baby shad in Ghastly Minnow and Outlaw Special. These crappie are suspending
at a 3-6 count in 6-18 fow. I caught 1 crappie over 14 in. and we caught a pile of 12-13 inchers. We
caught crappie almost everywhere we went. On on dock in 6 fow. I stick a fish that runs around a post,
peeling line like crazy, I pull in tight where I reach my rod around the post. The fish runs out and down
the bank and back under the dock again, I finialy get him back out, where he runs 100 yards up the slew
with me following with the trolling motor. I have 4 lb. test, so I am at his mercy. It feels like a drum, but it
had no quit. We finally got a peek, it was a big carp. After several attempts David gets the net under him.
It was 32 inches long and wasted 20 minutes, But it was the principle of you hit my jig, and I will get will try
to get you in the boat. I thought we would hit the 100 keeper mark, but only caught 2 crappie in our last
1 1/2 hour. We finished with 93 keeper crappie and learned to start carrying water in the cooler. We quit at
7:00 and released all fish.
