Cutler Kitties 5/6/2011
#1
Missed out on Cinco De Mayo, so today I had my own kitty fiesta out at Cutler.

Arrived at 10:30'ish and right away a decent Channel wanted to play- so I obliged. Soon after landing her, I missed a hammer-strike (that will learn me to text and fish), and then another Cookie Kitty. Even a carp decided to join the party. I was happy to now have kitty bait.

My buddy Ben showed up just in time to help me with a nice 25" that I released. Not too long after, Ben had a real nice one that decided to generously give back the hook- this one could have easily been 28" or bigger. Of course the wind picked up and the bite slowed wayyyy down. Only a couple more the rest of the way, with a little Mud Cat even joining the party.

Coyote showed up (finally) and launched his boat in the wind. Hopefully he got into a few.

Funny how the wind can affect the bite. I plan on having another fiesta out there soon.

It was fun, and look forward to some more tomorrow and in the weeks to come! Below is mine from last night. Just over 25" and the scale said 7 lbs. Who knows just how accurate the scale is, but when you catch one of those on an ulta-light, it's a hog, no matter how big! It had some nice meat on it, and got us a great dinner.

This place reminds me a lot of Utah Lake. The breeze, the color of the water, the variety of species and the size of the Channels.

This is an historic moment - Lavaman makes a post! Nice on! But it's a secret where you were at right? [blush]

It was good to see you guys out there. Looked like you'd been into some good tugs on them kitties.
So - how'd the filleting go? Shoulda brought you my 'lectic knife!

Man - Wormsinker - I see what you were talking about - shirts - it's like a good 1 ft abrupt drop off that launch. At least I just put the trailer tires over the edge. Keep the truck tires ON the ramp. That seriously needs some work. Where do I complain?!

Water sure is low. I was happy to have fired up my "new" 9.9 - got her running good. Success to the outing! Though I didn't hook up any fish, I did have fun tooling around. Went down-river towards the dam. LOTS of Geese, and floppy carp all over. But geeze - so much shallows. Ended up in 1-2 ft of water time and again.
Played by some 'cars' - but didn't find any takers. Hoping for some bass or crappie, but not this time.
Dragged some bottom bouncers, and carp strips - pitched some tubes, worm under bobber... I need to find some reeds.

Thinking I'll try from Benson next time. But sure the kids wanna see the new boat get some action. I think Mantua is calling me. Maybe Willard even....

oh, and btw: I think this officially puts you in the lead Lavaman! I got some work to do!

[cool]Ya...it may be a short-lived lead, though. One never knows. I'm just glad we didn't have this same bet with Ben or TD!

This week has been the first time that I have caught something other than the little mudders in Cutler. It has been fun. Now this stinking weather needs to get back on track so we can enjoy some more!

Ben, like I told you the other day- you're one of 3 people that consistently out-fish me (the other two being TD and my brother).

I'm still learning, and love the whole process. I just like being out, and if I catch something, it's a bonus.

We need to grab my friend Shaun and go hammer some more Kitties. Coyote can come with if he promises not to spook the fish haha

What - you don't think dragging around buckets of bolts counts as a rattle-trap? I just spook the Carp with my big snagging treble hook/weight! I do try to sneak up on the kitties? But I think they can smell me coming!

Went out from Benson Saturday afternoon. Went a bit north, then went a bit south - ended up playing with a bunch of mudder fudders around the wooden bridge. Brought home a phat ugly carp for some "fresh meet".

One BIG chunk of carp got picked up by something a lot heavier than the usual little mud-buddies, but didn't get a look before she released. Talked to a fellow that almost landed a nice 2ft Walleye by the bridge the night before.

[cool][#0000ff]Just takin' a poke at Derek. He used to live in that area and still has a fondness for Timp.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There's an old saying that "Trout don't live in ugly places". Seems like we can say that about most of the Utah kitties too.[/#0000ff]
