Spring Cattin'
#1
I know what I know . . . {Paul Simon}

floated & fished - dragged baits, schlung bobbers, pitched plastics.
Found fish, nice ones too! Hooked up three phatties, landed two.(broke off a nice one!) Great calm weather, warm air, cool water- but warming. Glad to have my "netter" on board for help. Tops at 24", 6 lbs, my best to date.

Past paths with Ben and his dog. My pup SO wants to go in the boat!!! Soon, soon.

Fun day out. Put the book learning to practice, and got some productivity out of it! (and not a single mudder to steal my bait! Schwing!)

Thanks for the photo Ben. Your phone cam kicks butt over MY phone-cam 4 shore!

Nice catch buddy!

I'm hopin' to get into 'em this year also. But with the funky weather conditions all I've gained so far being one of the numbers of folks that TD mentioned that hasn't done well and finding any that will play with me. Still early in the year tho - and hopefully I'll have something to report soon! [cool]

Nice catch!
Now that you got them dialed in, you'll find it only gets better. You'll find them in the same areas until the end of August/September. The only thing that will change now, is the time of day/night that will produce the best.

I can see the exact spot in your picture, where my brother caught 10+ from shore. I have never had too much luck in that area [:/]. I do best further north/west of where your at.

Thanks guys. And you're right about that. Went to the same spot today, and got some action. This time I remembered my carp strips!

Went today - while burning up some vacation - and man - I hooked up a good one. Was right up to the boat, while getting the net down, and untangling the other rod - it took off underneath the boat like three times and spooled line on me. Finally got 'er in position, took one more run under, and she was gone. Got my bobber back, but . . .

Thought I had a carp at first - it was such a lump. But then - - - I saw whiskers... pretty sure it was as good or better a fish than yesterday's tops. If only I'd had my "netter" we probably woulda landed it.

Nothing else for a couple hours out. Lots of carps abouts. Water's risen even more.

Passed Ben heading out as I was heading back. He'll probably find that fish with the red hook and beads hanging from her lip.
Hey Ben - you can keep the hook - I want the fish back!

My buddy Jared might have hooked into her. We lost a nice one at the boat, that if I had to estimate was over 8 lbs. We ended up with a good afternoon too. 2 ugly carp, half a dozen or more yellow-bellies, and 8 channels that we landed, with 2 around 7 lbs. Jared has the pics on his phone. I will try to get them from him.

Yup - I think you've told me that before. I'll blame the boat on this one...[Image: yell.gif]

clever cats though - run straight at ya, and under ya...part of what I get for using my light trout tackle, instead of the braid and the big rod with more backbone. But it's a fun fight!

Been trying to work the drag more, but - still room for improvement (obviously!). Been leaving the drag WAY open so they can pick up and move away with my offer, before making a strike.

Might not be Timpanogos, but we get a pretty nice view from the marsh. Looks like it's time to plant corn and peas!

Been playing with different spinner bead combos. Some weighted, some not. Some with, some w/o spinner blades. Worms and carp mostly on the hooks.
Been looping back through select beads to serve as a stop.
Not using the spinners in the marsh, but the trout have been giving chase to my new spring colors!

Ben sounds like you guys found em pretty good! Look forward to the pix. Look more forward to getting out there again! Wish I didn't have to leave when I did.
