Unwanted Posts
#1
There have been some very offensive posts generated on the Nevada Board towards the moderator. We are currently tracking the IP address and are close to pinning down the location. These posts are coming out of Utah. I hope that who ever is doing this will STOP! This is uncalled for, especially since southernman has been a good friend to the Utah Board for a long while.

We are currently debating whether or not to continue to allow guests to post for this very reason. When someone takes the time to register and take part in the forum there is a degree of ownership. To allow a "guest" to hit and run, posting demeaning garbage without having to have some degree of accountability is something we do not wish to tolerate. Again, I hope that who ever it is will stop this nonsense. Like my mother used to tell me. "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all."

Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

I'm sorry to hear that BLM! This is such a great site wouldn't want to see some imature pranksters ruin it for every one!

If you don't mind me asking, what are the nature of these posts? Are they just derogatory remarks towards the moderator or uncalled for criticism?

In my opinion I don't think guests should be allowed to post. If one is going to participate by posting they should be required to register in this way held accountable for thier words. This is the way other boards (not necesarily fishing related) handle their forums. I think it would solve alot of problems.

Good luck tracking down that IP address, from what I understand they recycle every so often but am not 100% sure. I know there are ways but obviously am not an expert.

Keep up the good work,

Al

well put blm and definitely a unnecesary post it was. though derogitory it is out of context to the forum as well. touchy subject on having guest not posts since it might push good posters away from registering. and it seems the flaming posts happen so little its hard to say on this subject.

The posts were the type of stuff that happens on UFF all the time. Probably the same people. Unlike UFF, we, as moderators are not going to let that happen or even start. We will actively delete posts and block IP's if warranted to control this type of problem. We will not tolerate these kind of things. Everyone deserves to come here and be treat with respect (well, a little anyway!) and not have to tolerate abuse from mean spirited people, guests or registered members alike.

We have a great bunch of people here that make this forum fun and informative. As long as Teroy, Predator, and I are the mods, we will do our best to keep it to a minimum. If you see anything that is totally out of line don't hesitate to PM one of us and we'll get the problem taken care of. Thankfully, this is a rare occurrence.

Heck Mack,

EVERY time I forget to "logon" and then post a post, I think "DANG, I forgot to logon again".. I hate it when my posts say "guest".

I wish you WOULD block guest posts. That's one less mistake I would have to worry about making.

You mods do a great job of keeping an eye on this great site. Keep up that good work.

As BLM said, this will STOP. Trust me, I have no reservation about clicking my Ban IP address on issues like this. They are very unnessacery and very unwanted. If you cant act like a mature adult on this board, please go back to playing with Hot Wheels and Barbies.

I am pleased that flaming is so minimal on BFT. If one wants to see the results of flaming not kept under control, merely visit UFF and see how that site has died as a result of flaming. Being able to post as a Guest is unusual on any sites these days. It is extremely easy to register on BFT and one does not have to give away all of the family secrets when they register (one can pick a user name of their choice, they are not required to list their actual name, and they can list a free email address or no email address at all, and one is set to post). Bear Lake Mack has become a moderator without most of the folks on here ever knowing what his real name is. So registering and remaining anonymous is not a problem on this site. If requiring registration to post will discourage those who just must post flaming posts then I am for it. Having the pleasure of being called names in print on UFF that are not part of my vocabularly, for merely trying to help my fellow fishermen/women, is an experience that I could have gone without. Being allowed to post as a Guest is a priviledge and not a right. Enuf said -- now let's all go fishing.

Once again the 1% makes it difficult for the 99%. I havent met one of the 1% yet though. I have met quite a few of the BFT folks this year fishing or fishing with them, and all have all havebeen great. I am glad that I found this site to get away from the garbage at other places, dont need to say names. I would like to say good job to the mods and how they govern this site. I havent met predator or BLM yet, but I am sure they are just as big and courteous sportsmen as everyone else that I have met on this site. Keep up the good work!!!

I too, started on that "other" board, ironically, it was someone there posting about how much they hated BFT that prompted me to come here and check it out...and now I'm here to stay. I visit that site maybe once every 3 or 4 weeks now. It's truly Sad to see how immature some people can be. Thanks to all the Mods who do a great job. I've never seen a flame on this site, and everyone acts more like a community, or better still, almost like a family. BFT Rules!!!

It's very unfortunate that someone has taken an abusive stance towards any moderator. These are the very folks that make this forum possible. We all owe them a huge Thank You for their efforts. One of the reasons this board is so popular is the character of the registered users and moderators and any behavior to undermine this is absolutely untolerable. I would hate to see guest postings discontinued, however, I strongly believe in accountability. In cases like this, accountability comes with registering.

Like many others on this board I got sick of reading the garbage on UFF and followed others to this BB. I would like to thank the mods. for the great job they do in keeping this a fun and iformative place to visit. And I would back them in anything they have to do to keep it that way.

THANKS AGAIN

Wow! What a great job you guys do as Mods. Southernman has been a great friend for many years. As a matter of fact we have gone fishing together many times. SM is a great guy to know and would give his shirt off his back to help you. As a member of the Nevada board we are starting to get more people to help us start posting reports and information there. It's getting exciting. I believe we need to stop guests from posting. It is to easy for them to hit and and then run.

Well before replying I read all the other post and some good points and comments have been made.

I take exception to the banning of guest from posting. First this has always been a place were ALL could come and share their opinions and experences. No i do not condon flames in anyway. What i do support is the freedom of speech that we enjoy. Might I suggest that if there is an offending person(s) contacting their IP can certainly be more effective than closing our doors to all who choose not to join. I know for one that I have benefitited from guest and that they have benefited from us here at BFT. I think we all were guest at one or another.

As Polo put it we have 1% who might cause trouble. Lets deal with that 1% on an individual basis. I would be glad to show you how to trace a post to the offending computer if you like. Heck just forwarding the post to the IP addy should get you the results that you are seeking. At any rate I like this site the way it is. I like the people here, the moderators and even the off topic stuff that pops up from time to time. I would hate to see it change. Just my 2 cents on the sugject.
