Tube Mods Day on Willard Bay

[cool][#0000ff]Hoped to slip in a quick trip to the N. Marina before the forecast afternoon weather arrived. Got 'er done. Air temp 50 and water temp 62 inside the marina at 6:30 am launch. Clear and calm. Lovin' it.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Made a circuit around the inside of the marina, tossing small jigs on one rod and dragging a minnow on the other. I could have got them because I didn't get a tap on either one.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I was fishing my way toward the channel to the lake when FlyGoddess showed up. We had agreed to meet up to try to get her bendo on a wiper with her fairy wand. Not today. She did manage a few[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]crappies on flies...and got to rassle with a couple of big nasty carp...but no wipers today. Good excuse to come back again. Her first outing here but I am guessing not her last.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I managed a triple play but no grand slam. Got one crappie, one wiper and one kitty. Tough fishing. Covered a lot of water with a lot of offerings...both inside and outside the marina. Saw very little on the sonar. Chatted with a few boaters as I loaded up to leave about 1. A few small wipers, a few small crappies and a couple of walleyes for the morning boat crews.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]No power squadron today but the skeeters are a startin' to form up in aerial brigades. Didn't even use the fish cleaning station because a humming horde was waiting there for me to feed them.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Purty day though. Water temps up to almost 65 when I got off the water at 1. The snow pack in the mountains has really shrunk. There were waterfalls visible up on the rock face of Ben Lomond. Summer might get here by September.[/#0000ff]

[bob]Wait a bit though, Peter. I had my confidence all up with the Crappie on first cast, but the others were slow and a lot of work at getting them.
I feel great the water I covered today though, but a MOTOR the next trip I am sure will get me into more fish. (Cover more water)

Such a nice morning to be out fishing. Great pictures TD, and way to squeak a little time on the water in between storms.

The catching may not have been a whole lot, but it sure looks better than what I did this morning --- lawn mowing, or I should say "field cutting"! Besides, I am beginning to forget what it is like to catch a fish --- any fish!!!

[cool][#0000ff]Hey, you did very well on a first trip to a new water. Like you said, scoring a crappie within seconds of getting started...I thought you had it knocked. But the fish will always find a way to humble you when you start feeling too smug.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Not sure having a motor would have helped ALL that much today. I DID cover a lot of water and most of it was FISHLESS on my sonar screen. The fish I did see mostly had their little mouths closed and their middle fins held up on the screen.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]No doubt about it though. You can't catch them where they ain't and having power lets you look in more places in less time.[/#0000ff]

At least the fish were biting somewhere. Hit Strawberry today (yes I returned) and nadda nothing zilch. No one was catching bank tanglers, tubers, and boaters.[crazy]

This year the fish just seem to be acting different. In years past I would usually see lots of surface activity. This year nada.

[cool][#0000ff]This is the time of year for a couple of things. First is the "turnover"...and a change in water chemistry. Second is the midge emergence. Fish get fat and lazy.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Hard to say this year. Late spring and lots of water. The fish are probably as as the fishermen.[/#0000ff]
