Ya I had to. You know the old saying make hay wile the sun shines. Well my son was still not feeling well today so I went alone. Tried a new spot for this year today. No one was fishing in the area. Maybe that was a bad omen? Oh well I got there early and hit it like a biting sow. I fished for an hour and had a couple of bass. I was thinking man I screwed up. I crossed the res and fished the other side. I got a great bass.
I went down the shore a bit and got my first walleye.
Then a few more "bigger" bass.
Some more walleyes.
I ran into some guys in a cove that I was fishing. I hated to tell them I just caught several Walleyes and a ton of bass in the spot they were anchored. We talked a bit and I moved on. Fishing was slow for the eyes. Bass were just smaller here than the other places I been getting them. After losing three $7.00 plugs on a cove that didn't produce I decided that I better cross again. Well at 12:00 the wind kicked up and the waves were two to two and a half foot high. I started to whistle the tune to the Edmond's Fitzgerald. As I crossed boats were heading back. A lot of guys were looking at me like I was riding my own coffin wagon. I hooked up with a nice trout as the waves were getting real bad. I was blown 100 yards off my mark but managed to make it in one piece. As I worked the frothy wave beaten beach I picked up a few more walleyes. At one point I made a video for the rescue team. My family thinks I am nuts.
Well I got back in one piece and loaded up. I got an email from one of our own members fish-o-holic before I left. Him and his family and friends were down to whack some walleyes. I found out the guys that anchored up earlier were some of his buddys. I gave them some helpful hints on finding the eyes and headed for home. It was good to meet him and his friends. I think we are going to have to do a float trip.
I had fish in the fridge so I released everything today. Another great day on SFCR. Ron
