Hey, leaky I'm very sorry for your loss. I love dogs, however I've never owned one. I used to have a cat when I was a kid, and it acted more like a dog than a cat. It followed me around, came when I called, loved company, and loved to cuddle up on the grass and relax. One day I came home from school and found him dead in the middle of the garage floor. he had a small hole in the side of him, just under the front shoulder. After some examination, my dad discovered that he had been shot with a nail gun. Our house was the last house in the neighborhood before the fields, but there was one more street behind our house and there was a construction company building a new home. My dad called the owner and complained, but nothing ever came of it. My poor cat had dragged himself home with a nail in his lung, only to die on the garage floor. I was crushed. If there's anything I can do, let me know.

Leaky, I to lost "my best friend" a couple years back with no warning. Ironicley this was forworded to me a couple days before the event but it helpd me get though it all and help me releaize that we will get them back.

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the
scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He
remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for
years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of
the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was
broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing
before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like
mother
of pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.

He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a
man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out,
"Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought
right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler
asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and
continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came
to
a dirt road which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had
never
been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a
man
inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there". The man pointed to a place
that
couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump." They went through the gate, and
sure enough, there was an old fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside
it.
The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he
gave
some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was
standing by the tree waiting for them.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," was the answer.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road
said
that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope.
That's Hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No. I can see how you might think so, but we're just happy that they
screen out the folks who'll leave their best friends behind."

Sorry to everyone else for putting it on here like this but I dont know how to do atachments

NO NO NO!!! I don't know what else to say. I was so looking forward to fishing with you and Bud one day soon. He sounds like such a great dog and friend. So Sorry for your loss! It would be very difficult to find another as good as Bud and impossible to replace! At least he lived his life fully to the end. No illnesses and full of energy. That's all we can all ask for. I've seen some that go blind or lame years before they pass. He was one of the lucky ones, fishing with his buddy to the very last.

How old was Bud?

Sorry to hear of your loss. I think anyone who has ever had a member of their leave will agree it is a hard thing. I consider any pet if you care for them and they show a little appreciation and affection is to be considered a part of the family.Hang in there.

When my dog got hit by a car 1 1/2 years ago, the dept. or animal services found her and brought her remains back home to me. A few days later in the mail they sent me a condolence package, and included was a copy of that poem, I still cry when I read it. Even though I have a new pal, my lab lillie. I still tear up!!! I was trying to find that to post it, but I am glad you did, cause I wanted make a nice copy of that poeem and frame it under a picture of my old dog.
