I've driven by Mann Creek Res. a number of times and never fished there. I hear that there are some smallmouth and planter trout in there? Anyone know anything about this lake or any idea on fishing it?

Our experience there is limited to three trips, two from shore and one on the water. Fishing was lousy, along with every one we talked to. That is not to say someone is not doing good, just ours and those we spoke with success.

I did not hit Mann Creek Res this year primarily because of our high water spring. I have fished it 2x each spring of the preceding 3 years. Mann Creek can be a good reservoir in Apr or May if you can catch it when it is not murky from runoff. I have had a couple 20+ fish days there in the past, fly fishing off my pontoon along the north and northwest shorelines down from the inlet. In Apr, you can find holdover trout in the 16-18" range. By end of May you are usually just catching the 10-12" planters and it is quantity, not quality. There can be some nice LMB action around the weeds on the north end and fishing off the shoreline to the east of the dam. I have not seen any SMB. By this time of the year, I wouldnt even bother with it. Your water sport people will make any fishing trip unpleasurable and the fishing will be lousy. I didnt even bother to check the plant schedule on it this year, but you might give it a try next year from late April through end of May, providing we have a normal water spring.

i have had two EPIC trips for LMB but that was in the late 90's . had a very productive trip three years ago fishing for LMB in the south end wading the willows in less than 2' of water. bass up to 18 " most were 12-14 ". have found some crappie as well. it seems to fish well for trout in the spring too.
