What's your Favorite thing about ICE FISHING

Last year was my first - and ever so quickly "I got it" whatever "it" was. Still don't know that I've defined "it" to myself.
So help me out here - what is "it" about ice-fishing that makes it so damned fun? The idea of walking on water, in the freezing cold, dead of winter - snow/rain/sleet - yup! And for what - to wait around for a skinny little pole to start wiggling?

What tickles your fancy enough to chance a polar-bear plunge?

#1) The lack of Water users like Jet Skiers, Wakeboarders, etc. No sea sickness on the ice!

#2) The lack of fisherman compared to summer users.

#3) The aspect of being out in winter, which is my favorite time of year for me. Last year I busted my knee Backcountry skiing and I had to greet my old friend fishing.

The rush that comes from being the first one to drill a hole in a couple of inches of ice. I love it - two turns of the auger and you are through. Some people sky dive or base jump, I ice fish[laugh]

That is why I have been known to tie an empty clorox bottle on a long rope to me, so someone can get ahold of the rope and pull me out. The best ice fishing is EARLY ICE ice fishing. Stick with me and I'll teach you the ropes. (no pun intended)

Going out and fishing in the cold weather. Nothing like skiing and fishing...especially in the same weekend! Gotta love those days when the fish come flying out of the hole. No boats, no kids throwing rocks, and lots of great people enjoying the same passion as me out on the hard deck. Come on old man winter....hurry up already!!

I like the taste of the fish from that cold water. I like the healing power of the openness setting on the vast expanses of ice, the bigger the better it feels.
I like setting in a warm ice tent catching fish when its really cold.
I like the crispness of the cold air at first light mixed with that dawn energy.

My favorite thing about ice fishing is bumping into guys like you out on the ice .I'm pretty sure that was you and your boy I met while fishing up to Pineview by the boat docks .. You gave me some good tips on lure selection and depth which helped me start catching that day So thanks again ,

Can't wait for some more of those big pineview slabbers as well as any and all other species that may come our way.

I used to like ice fishing much more than open water simply because I used to catch a lot more fish thru the ice. But this is changing as I become a better angler in general.

While for some, fishing is a "one man against nature" thing - but for me it's more social. I enjoy being out on the ice with those that I wouldn't ordinarily get to go out with, and even taking a small group. Boats are limiting that way - and so are bank tangling opportunities.

The hard deck does level the playing field somewhat, but you still gotta find fish! [] There's something to be said for being out on the boat a warm summer day on a high mountain lake, but like the desert, there is a unique beauty of being on a frozen winter lake.

Plus, it does give me a good reason to get out of the house during the winter! Ideally, I can spend some time in the sun that isn't as often here in the valley with all the smog. [:p]

When I was sitting on Causey Res. and about 75 deer came down the cliffs and crossed the Res. about 50 ft. away from me. I knew for sure exactly why I love to ice fish. A limit of kokes every time I go is pretty good too. It's pretty scary always going out on the ice by myself though. I'd love to get in with a good group who likes to fish around Ogden.
