Pineview Report (9-26)
#1
Got to Pineview at about 0615 with my neighbor ready to get into some musky. Launched the boat at about 0630 and in the process Old Coot and AF DAN show up. As I was getting the boat started Coot yells at me that I have a musky coming towards the boat. I look over my shoulder and sure enough. Here comes about a 30-35 incher coming straight towards the boat. As he gets closer I can see he has a meal in his mouth. He finally gets with in range for me to see clearly through the dark and he's got a 12 inch catfish in his mouth (looked like a dog carrying a newspaper LOL). He comes about a foot from the boat, checks me out for a few seconds as I stand their and drool, turns around and disappears. WHAT A SIGHT though!!!!!!!!!!! We finally hit the water and cruise the entire shore line starting at the private club docks. Just around browing point the drag starts screaming on my partners reel....... A carp, foul hooked. I left my line in the water while I get the carp unhooked. We kick the boat in gear and my drag starts sceaming, damn snagged. Knew I shouldnt have left the line in. So I start jerking and nothing. We put the boat in reverse and track the line and it free's up. Now I was under the impression I was snagged but as I get the lure back to the boat I remember, my J-11 jointed Rapala floats so there is no way I was snagged!!!!!! Possible a Musky saw my lure floating in the water like a dead or injured fish and decided to give her a taste???? Never know I guess. We snagged two more carp and that was all for the day. Trolled between 2.5 and 3 mph and the water temp was 59 when we arrived and 61 when we left.

Great report Teroy! Hopefully next time you'll have better luck.

WHEN am I going to have time to take the trip up to Pineview?!?!?! I want a shot at those Tigers so bad! Since I live in Orem I can't just go up for an hour or two before or after work, or even a half day trip on a saturday. Since I'm in school as well, my time is so limited! I haven't been fishing since the perch party at Jordanelle 3 weeks ago. AHHHHH!!!! Keep up the good reports about Pineview though. At least I can live it through all of you.

Cat_man,

I, too, live in Orem and have been wanting to go up to Pineview to have a shot at those tigers. I even added some muskie-sized spinners to my collection to get ready for Pineview. Let me know when your schedule opens up, maybe we can head up there for a day. I am available weekdays if that's more convenient for you, or if you just want to play hooky.

Thanks for the offer fishnpro. I'd like to get up there and hopefully I don't get one before you because you've been trying so long. [Wink] I won't have any time to go up anytime soon, unfortunately. [Sad]

kastmaster:

I was thinking of getting some lures as well. Since I am so @#$% busy with work and school, though, I won't be able to go out until next spring. Does anyone know if the musky fishing is any good early in the year, like April?

I sure thought today was going to be the big day for muskie. I figured that since the weather had been nice and constant for a few days, it was fall time, and a new/dark moon, I figured that everything was set for one heck of a musky day. Well ..... once again mother nature teaches me that there aint no such thing as a "fishing formula" (that is unless you are talkign to the salesman in the fishing department). I also thought that seeing that big ole musky heading for Teroy was a good omen. But I was VERY wrong. The closest thing we come to getting a musky today was a snag that AFDan got. Our hearts started racing and we thought we had arrived but NO ... just a snag.

AFD did pick up one smallie down in the narrows but by 11:30 we decided to throw in the towel.

Still a VERY nice day to fish and as always, had fun meeting other fellow BFTers on the pond.

I think that the earler the better ... as soon as you can see to fish. But if you get there at around 8:00 and fish for the rest of the morning, you should do fine. There seem to be a lot of SMB along the north side of the narows. Good luck and have fun.

Be sure and let us know how you did.
