Decided to see Currant Creek for myself this morning. Beautiful drive, sun shining and absolutely calm. The only clouds were over the water at Deer Creek (open water) and Strawberry (mostly open water) as I passed by. As I passed the turn to the Soldier Creek dam, again it was socked in but I could see people out fishing on the ice. The ice at Soldier Creek gave me hope that Currant Creek was capped but it was not to be. Currant Creek had some ice, but was still open. I tried to fish the open water but the access was difficult and there was ice around the edges. I headed back to Soldier Creek. There were several trucks parked on the first corner past the turn off and 3 groups of people on the ice. I pulled the sled down to the ice. It was clear with some ice crystals on top. Although it was 4+ inches thick, it is still scary these first times out. Had lots of bites and quite a few hook ups. Three pretty nice Cutts and a variety of bows from 6 inches to 16 inches. Turned out to be a pretty nice day on the ice. The two pics below are from the dam at Currant Creek.

Thanks brookie. I was fairly sure it would be ready also and had planned to go there next weekend. I guess I will try somewhere else.

Thanks for the update, Brookie. I saw the same at Soldier Creek this morning on the way to Starvation--groups of people ice fishing. Was hoping Currant Creek would have more ice though, I've been really eager to try ice fishing there. Glad to hear you had a good time. Thanks again!

Thanks for the post. It saved me a long drive. I would have done the same thing.... Hit Soldier Creek. Glad you got in to some!

Thanks for the pics of CC. How was the road to the dam? 4x4 must or could a mad man in a Sentra make it?

I was in a Jeep Liberty, but I did not need 4 wheel drive. I think your Sentra would make it to the dam no problem. The road did have some snow but it was spotty. From the dam on around the lake the road was snow packed, but not deep. I did drive around to see if I could find some open water - did not put the 4x in.
