Island Paradise at Scofield 12-18
#1
Scofield - Went with my twin and BFT's In2Fishing (plus his 2 kids). While we were setting up we met up with UWN's Brittonpoint and chatted while we got ready to walk on water. We started out near the parking lot in 27 feet of water. The fishing was slow (4 fish) so my twin and I trecked out across the lake to the island. The pressure cracks were perfectly safe to walk across. When we arrived at the island there were 7 other fisherman there.

My twin caught 28 fish (23 cutts, 3 rainbows, and 2 big chubs). I caught 9 cutthroats. My twin was using a pumkin pepper gold jig in 1/32oz tipped with a nightcrawler. I used a gold kastmaster and a silver kastmaster with a chunk of chub minnow.

I was about to switch to my twins rig but I had 2 fish that were so big that I could not reel them in. Too bad they got off the hook. I guess I was going for a shot of quality over quantity and got no fish below 13 inches. I realize now that I need to switch out the hooks for a longer shanked hook, like the ones that come with blue fox size 3 spinners. Oh well lessons learned.

We left by 3pm and chatted breifly with some other BFT members. I tried white paddle bugs with chub meat and got only 1 fish. Pink paddle bugs did not work. My twin got to cross the Utah Chub off his bucket list today!

2 were huge but got off. Still to me scofield is dinker fest. Not complaining at all though. Tugs are tugs. Out of the 250 fish I saw pulled out at the island none were over 18 inches.

Oh it was a good day out on the ice. I finally got to find out why those fish love the pumpkin pepper color so much. A fish puked all over the place and the color was exactly and I mean exactly the same color as the pumpkin pepper jig. No wonder it works so well everywhere I go.

As for the chub....glad to get that one off the bucket list. When it popped out of the hole my 1st words were, "what the hell is that, dude this thing is UGLY". I think I could go my whole life without catching another one of those....unless I need some bait.[Wink]

Amazing how it was quiet on the lake near the highway...however when we moved to the island, that ice was singing while fishing next to the 2nd (larger) pressure crack. Nothing like hearing cracks and pops around and under you ...then watching water start bubbling up around the pressure crack. Overall I felt pretty safe on 6-7 inches of ice.
