The first question is WHY! the program they have right now is working, don't mess with it, The Rainbows are getting big and healthy, The cuts are world Class, Throw in some Kokes and the lake is as good as it gets right now. There are so many other lakes you can already catch Tigers, Where else can you catch these world class Cuts, we had our best year ever on Rainbows with 11 fish over 5 lbs. Don't screw up a good thing, Tigers have been in Scofeild for years now, The chubs have kicked there butt, If you want tigers, pick any other lake!

Nothing against Tigers, either. But, If I had my choice, I would like to see Brook Trout back in there. I miss the old days before the reservoir was poisoned when you could catch Brookies frequently.

Good luck. I have my doubts that the UDWR would plant another predator that would eat cutthroats as well as kokanee. Even if you get a million signatures, I would still doubt that they'll ever get planted in Strawberry.

Now Brookies would be cool. There would be no need to go up north, [Wink]

I just don't see why you would mess with a lake that is great.

Rather see perch. Why add another trout when you can add another species? However, I would prefer to catch a Tiger over a Cutthroat. Just my opinion.........

The Cutts are winning the battle against the chubs (or at least keeping pace), and they don't need the predation and competition the Tigers would bring. I will decline to sign.

In before the lock!!!

This is going to get ugly based on history of posts.

Strawberry is good as is. Less chubs, more rainbows, chance at monster cuts...Plus great mountain air!!

Good fishing fellow BFT'ers!

I agree with the sentiment "why mess with a good thing". The fishing is top notch now. No need for changes.

That said, if a few frankenfish tigers were dumped in there, I doubt there would be a negative effect.

Five years ago I would have said absolutely. But anymore, tiger trout are almost down with albino to me.
They are no longer a novelty and it seams like they are everywhere in Utah. I say nay to tigers in Strawberry. Spend the money on sterile 'bows!

You guys forget the history of why Bear Lake Cutthroats are in Strawberry. Because of the ESA, and the USFWS you will most likely never see another species introduced into Strawberry. Regardless of how many people sign petitions, or how many petitions are brought.

I would throw a party if I found out Tigers and Brookies were being planted into the berry. I would also start making plans to buy a cabin up there as I would fish no where else.

I don't get the whole "Why mess with a good thing?" line of reasoning. The great thing with sterile fish, such as tigers and the brookies they would plant, is that they could stop planting them if things started going downhill.

I would vote to replace 1/3 of the bows they plant with tigers and then add some sterile brookies. There is no reason the Berry couldn't turn into Henry's south. It would be great to add a few species so that you could target individual species and not always know what you hook.

In addition, seems like some non-sterile browns could also be planted and they would maintain a healthy balance.

Can you imagine the berry with cutts, bows, tigers, brookies, browns and kokes. Freaking awesome!

I can see it both ways. I LOVE fishing in places where there are so many types and species that you never know what you're going to catch, and chances are good it's not going to be just another rainbow. In Currant Creek I can get tigers, bows, cutts, maybe brookies. In Starvation I can get bows, browns, walleye, perch, bass. And the trout are usually pretty good sized. That's a blast! At Deer Creek I can get bows, walleye, bass, perch, browns. I love not knowing what I'm going to reel in on the other end of my line.

On the other side of the coin though is, this is Strawberry, a fishery that almost qualifies as sacred. It's closely managed by the DWR, but there's a reason--those bleeping chubs almost ruined this amazing place. (I very much respect and understand the reason behind the slot limit but it does get irksome when every single cutt we catch goes about 21.5"!!) [:/]

Strawberry is special. I think I'm leaning with the camp that says we should leave it alone. If you want tigers or some of the other fun critters, just go to a spot that has 'em. Currant Creek isn't that far from the Berry, and there's plenty of tigers there. [cool] Daughter and I both caught our first tiger there this past season.

How dare you even bring up such a thing! !! [Wink] god forbid we add more slimers to a cold lake like the berry that has a solid forage base like it does ... you should be tarred and feathered for such a thought...[Tongue]

U want my opinion.... fill the lake with Musky... haha [cool]

Look at Utah Lake and the June Sucker. How much money is being spent on recovery of a fish that almost no one cares about? Is there any profit in it? It is being done because of the the Endangered Species Act. And that is the core reason for Bear Lake Cutthroats being in Strawberry. If everybody in Utah, Montana, Idaho, Colorado, and Wyoming voted to get rid of wolves the ESA would prevent it from happening. How much money has been spent on reintroducing wolves? How much money is being lost because of loss of wildlife and livestock? Anybody think it will make a difference?
