Made a quick trip to the AFBH this afternoon. Was there from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. Checking conditions for taking a group of boys there tomorrow morning. Ice was about 6 to 8 inches and solid (in the marina). I only caught one fish -- a nice sized mud cat. Talked to a guy who fished it yesterday and today. He fished from about 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and appeared to have caught about 20-25 white bass. He said the catching was about the same both days and the bite seemed to die off around 3:30 or so in the afternoon. He was catching them actively jigging Sonar jigs (not tipped with any bait). Will be there in the morning trying our luck.

Good luck and have a good trip with the boys. I would like to get out there soon and get into some White Bass.

The "group" of scouts ended up being one boy. The others couldn't get out of bed. After waiting over 1/2 hour, four of us leaders and one boy decided to go for it. Got as far as the turn off to Bangerter Highway when I decided to flip a U turn and head for home. Only two of us were prepared for the constant rain, so I figured we would have lasted about 15 minutes before being soaked. So here I am sitting at my computer wishing that I was somewhere inside of my pop-up shack fishing.

[#0000ff]Sorry about the botched plans. But I am thinking that with the strong south winds last night you may have found unsafe conditions as well.[/#0000ff]

Definitely would have been worse to get wet even faster by falling through the ice into Utah Lake. There was open water at the entrance to the marina, so it wouldn't take much wind to get wave action going inside of the marina.

Not by way of advice, but every time I go with a noobie, adult or kid, everybody asks me why I bring so many clothes; I have a huge Army duffel full.
In that sack is a complete outfit for me to drive home in if I get wet, and every other bit of MY old gear I can find, stuff I upgraded from generally; socks, hats, gloves, ponchos, old waders, old rubber boots, drypants, etc....and a huge repair kit with 3 kinds of tape, string, sewing stuff, buttons, superglue, Fix-all, rubber patches, etc..
I'm generally very disorganized, but this is one bright spot for me.[laugh]
