Drove by Newton a few hours ago to check it out. There is new ice where the water used to be, but right at the edge it is only an inch thick or so. You can tell, if you look close enough, by the pics where the newer ice meets the older ice. Depends on where you are on the shoreline as to how far that distance is. Not sure if you could sneak out on it or not. But here are the pics I took. Hope they help.

If Newton isn't viable, we could try Hyrum or Mantua.
