How many of you would?
#1
How many of you guys would consider fishing fom a totally decked out jetski or waverunner...one thats outfitted with sonar, rod holders...possibly downriggers...cooler etc...go anywhere, fast and economical, and slow enough to troll with?

Heck ya I would. I work out of an inflatable pontoon now. That would be a cool set up. I have read stories about doing this in the ocean. I would do that too. Ron

only if i always fished by myself. it would be tough if there was any wind and you had to slow fish. and if i was given a jet ski , and i mean free, and didnt have a boat.

The problem I see with this is you have to look forward and won't see bites- always have to wear a life jacket I think- not much fun by yourself, and costs more than a boat...

The guy in the video is using a newer more expensive ski...Im going to use an older late 80's waverunner as they are smaller and cost very little...but the video was to just show what it could be...or whats already being done in other states..

I mostly fish by my self in my Pontoon so that would not be a big deal breaker for me. Once and a while my son goes or someone else goes. But for the most part I can see one of these being a very useful tool to get to seldom fished areas.

I have a friend that has a small aluminum boat. I have fished a couple times with him and he is so busy with driving the boat I don't see how it could be fun to fish that way by him self but he does it. Another friend of mine has a big bass boat. He is so worried about scuffing the paint that he won't troll close enough to catch walleyes. When we are fishing strike for crappie he won't get close to the bank to cast to the bank.

All of the jetskis I have seen can run in very shallow water. They would have plenty of power and range. If a guy was drift fishing down a river you could go back through the spot that was good. In a pontoon like mine I am stuck. I have to keep going down river.

I could see one being real handy for the guy that fishes alone or a friend that has one. Ron

I don't see why not. Most jetskiers aren't liked because of the recreational use and rudeness of some users. That is kind of like saying all cars are bad because of some rude drivers. Whatever can get you to the area you want to fish. They are noisy and hard to fish slow from, but if you fish places that you can anchor up or wind drift then it should work. Especially if you fish a lot of big reservoirs or rivers.

Myself I prefer a pontoon or tube because of the ease and maneuverability while I am fishing, but if you have areas that you need to power to, then the jetski would work.

Its funny really, because having had one of these exact rigs in the past, I never considered it loud...in fact it was much quieter than my current boat and kicker setup...I too fish alot w friends and such use the boat every time...but when I go alone I still burn the same amount of fuel...and setting my speeds and dropping down dr's without spinning the boat can be tough at times...but if I am going alone anyway...I would rather take the ski and save on frustrations and fuel and such. In this case I am looking at a pair on a double trailer so that way if my gf or a friend want to go too they can...sure would be faster and less trouble all the way around IMO...

Nice idea and I thought about it years ago, but the cost and trying to get everything on a jet ski is not easy. I ended up with a toon and like it better. I have rods holders, downrigger, trolling motor, fish finder and storage. More room than a jet ski and many more options like drifting shallow small rivers, running large rivers, trolling on lakes, and being able to fish places with motor restrictions. Some day I plan on putting a 4-5hp outboard on my toon and then I could go up and down river. I have seen my same toon with a 35hp outboard on it and it does move, but that seems overkill.

There is a video on Youtube somewhere with the 35 on it and Dave's wife playing with it.

Here is one with the 8hp on it.

Another one with the 8hp and 4hp

Here is one with a 4hp on the same toon I have on the south fork. South Fork

Can't seem to find the 35hp video. I seen the mount 3 years ago at the Fly expo and talked to Dave a bit about it. I think it was to much for something so small.

This is the best relationship between fishing and jetskis I've come across:

It's kinda pathetic when you see a guy having trouble with his jet ski, yet not 'calling' for help (too cool for that). And even then other jet-skiers couldn't be bothered to stop and help out one of their own.

But hey - to each his own. Whatever floats your boat - as they say.

Just don't troll to close to me, if you please!

Nice...is that supposed to be some kinda subtle threat there? jk LOL Because I can tell ya right now...Ive had more trouble with A-holes in other boats cutting me off trolling or slammin me with waves while im trolling than waverunners...just saying. If you control your boat and carry yourself as if you have a brain we will never have a problem...how's that. I'm old school and was raised with manners and proper ettiquette in these things...and I assure you I have been more than gracious to jerks who obviously lack in that department.

I have seen those. I was thinking if any pontoon could handle that motor the X5 would do it. I would love to have an x5 but I just can't do it. Ron
