Fish Lake Report
#1
What a beautiful place. It was -16 on Friday and -14 on Saturday. That was at 8 am both days. We hammered the fish. Caught lot's of splake and rainbow. New size ID a ton of Perch. Ice was 18" thick , the slush monster is starting to lift his neck. Here's a few pic's Enjoy.

PS: For whom it may concern, The Perch were 9 and 10 inches. Regularly. I got used to filleting 5 inchers when I lived down there.

PSS: Now that is where we need to have a Perch Party.

Good on ya Glen, looks like a typically happy group. John and I had a swell couple of days too. +1 on the bigger perch. Sounds like a welcome lakewide deal. Our best was 9 3/4". Most of our keepers were 8.5-9.5". Sorry we didn't make it over there. We'll have to get together again sometine.

Yeah that's what I am talking about. Big Perch. You can call them whatever you want. I would say the tiger muskie have made a difference on the Perch in Fish lake but the boys at the state would never think so. I think the best thing they could do for Fish lake is to leave them tiger muskee in there. Meaning catch and release only with line and lure. This means no free D-I-V-E-R-S. but that will never happen. But we sure got them stopped from poaching them Mack in the Fall. I had to eat a few nasty e-mails from that other state but it was worth it. I'd like to throw a big ole' Perch Party down there. In fact I would even cover the prizes for the 3 biggest perch.

My birthday is this weekend so my wife and i thought we'd like to go down and spend a day fishing and spend the night somewhere. I haven't been there this year. My wife has never been there. Where would you recommend going to fish on the lake? She wants to catch some good size fish and really likes splake to eat. Perch are okay and we may keep a few. How thick is the ice and is the snow levels too deep for an atv to get around? We are not young anymore and both are fat and out of shape, so if walking is the only option, where would you recommend parking close to the water. We will head down friday, fish saturday only, spend the night and drive back sunday. Any info or tips or suggestions are welcome.

As usual, job well done. I'm going to try FL on soft water this year so it's good to see the perch sizes are up. Thanks for the report.

There are places to stay in Loa for 30 to 40 dollars. I like to stay down in Richfield at the Hampton in. Hot tub, wingers, and clean rooms. Only 45 minutes from the lake. I like to fish the east side the slush is starting to get deep so it is making it tough for the 4 wheelers to get ovet there. Anywhere you go on the lake it is best to find the moss line. Fish just off the moss line in 25-28 feet of water. There is a plowed parking lot and easy access at Mackinaw point. I like to jig. I have been using the gizzy bugs and the new gizillas. The colors i use are pink orange and white was working the best up there. You can pick them up at the ace hardware in Richfield if you need some. Let us know how you do. Good luck have fun. If there is enough interest in the perch party we will be at the south end just out from lake side. Come find us.

Count me in on the perch party. Could probably round up a couple others as well.
