I struck up a deal with my wife, if I did a bunch of yard work for her on Tuesday, then we would go fishing Monday. We headed out Monday, but got a late start. Didn't get to the dam until about 10. There were 2 other people there, but they didn't seem to be having huge amounts of success. I threw a worm on my boys pole first and chucked it out there, then my wife's, then got myself set up. While I was trying to get mine setup, the little buggers kept nibbling at my son's pole. I kept trying to set it for him so he could reel it in, but they were being a bit too quick for me to drop my pole and get over there. About 2 minutes after I finally got my pole out there, my son had one that I was able to set the hook for him and he landed it. It wasn't huge, but he said he only wanted small fish. It was also a proud day for a dad because he has now officially caught something I haven't, a Whitefish.

We all kept getting little hits for about another hour, then it slowed down. I think they must have been biting the hooks sideways or something because we missed quite a few. We ended up leaving about 1:30 with the final score,
Mom: 2 Brookies
Son: 1 Brookie, 1 Whitefish
Dad: 1 Brookie

Sorry, no pics this time.

Its always a good day when your son outfishes you Smile

So you got to do the fishing first?! I usually sneak in a chore first, then run off. Course there's always more waiting....

So no browns? That's surprising. What kind of size were the brookies? Don't know if I've ever caught a 'whitefish' - various suckers and such. I do hear they can get pretty chunky and put up a good fight.

The trout I've been tinkering with are swiping and pecking at baits - whether it be spinners in motion, or bait under a bobber - seen a lot of follows and swipes - but not really bites. Maybe they're still working out of winter Ice-fishing mode.

Oops, they were browns. I forgot what kinds they had in there, and since the only kind of trout I usually catch are bows, I am not too good at identifying them. Had to do a quick Google search to see the difference. I am pretty confident on the Whitefish though from looking at Google images.

All the fish were pretty small. The biggest was probably 12". The Whitey had some chunk to him, but still not very long. He was built kind of like a carp. He did fight pretty good though.

Oh, and dont be too happy for me getting the fishing in before the chores... I traded 3 hours of fishing for all day of chores Smile

I was pretty shocked when you said Brookies. I fish that river all the time never seen a Brook. :-) Fun fishing up there I hit them like crazy during a spawn...good tasting to...

Yea, my bad. I checked the wildlife.utah.gov report before I went and looked at the possible catches. I remembered the different kinds of trout it had listed where Bows, Cuts, and Bro*** trout. I just couldnt remember what the *** was and I knew they weren't the first two! Like I said, not really caught a bunch of Brook or browns in my day. On second thought though, I am pretty sure the first one my son caught was an Alaskan salmon Wink JK. If you can't joke at your own expense, where does that put you right?
