Least productive river?
#1
So I'm in a rut. I can fish the Provo...with 5,000 others, and catch 15-20 fish a day. I can fish the Weber, and catch 40+ a day.

I'm looking for some new water-RIVER only- that I can go challenge myself on. I don't mind the logan, I fish it during the summer on my scouting trips for the deer. But that's still too familiar.

My point being, we have all fished rivers that didn't produce, and we never went back, so what are some of yourr N utah least productive rivers-

My nemisis is. Currant creek- I always catch a few, but I just feel like I have its number- so I may head out that way to give it another shot- if ya'll have anymore suggestions I'd likes to hear them.

The Ogden can test you.South Fork of the Ogden can also be fickle. Not saying you will get skunked on either but they do take some learning to master big fish days.

I've only fished the Ogden from near that eating place, I think its called. The Oaks... We do really well up and down stream from ther, I need to find some other access points- if you have an access popint, please...

I know with some of my threads it may seem as though. I only count success by the size-but it aint true! I'm in the game for the bite! I'm just as happy with any fish eating my hand tied bug, but who aint gonna be proud of big fish?

So thanks for the reminder of the Ogden. Worth a good days casting practice!

In all seriousness, give the Jordan a go on the fly. I've had very few successful days throwing feathers/fur at them, but as FG can attest, it can be done -- and it's quite fun, actually.

ok- that's a challenge I...I....just can't do- my bishop said in my blessing that if I ev er caught a carp on a fly rod I'd go straight to hell- and I don't wanna take that chance.

Not that there is anything WRONG with it for others, I just wanna keep my flies in trout mouth, just in case that blessing was right.

If you know of a trout laden sight on the Jordan, I'd be glad to try it.

You asked for access points on the Ogden.I can't think of too many stretches of the Ogden that are not accessible. Even in the canyon where all the cabins are. Yeah Im sure most of it is technically private..but I have never been told I was tresspassing, and thats where I do 99.999% of my fishing. It seems to me like as long as you are wading up the river and not walking through peoples yards no one will bother you. I think one reason that the Ogden is that way is because most of the houses in the canyon are vacation rentals so no one really cares.
The river from the mouth of the canyon all the way through town as far as I know is 100% open to the public.

I totally agree with HTF on the Ogden being more of a challenge then a lot of other places I have fished. The fish are super spooky, there is quite a bit of fishing pressure and there isn't an inch of that river that is surrounded on both sides with overhanging trees and brush. BUT... There are tons and tons of fish to be caugh!. It seems to me like I catch more fish in the canyon... but bigger fish through town.

Now the south fork has been nothing but frustrating for me... I even have accsess to private property up there but still have yet to have an epic day on the south fork of the Ogden.

Ya'll have mean leaning towards the Ostream... In fact I'm putting it on my FRI schedule- big small...lots or none I'll post pics of my trip.

And look forward to hitting some of the less popular streams that are "less" productive.

the jordan is defiantly tough on the fly. weve caught WB on nymphs and drys and caught crap on drys aswell. a few suckers nymphing too but nothing real consistent since the water is so murky. the last month it was down and clear and thats when we caught a few. but nothing beats hooking a huge carp or sucker on the fly rod.

All good ideas, guys. Thanks. I've got quite a list of tougher waters to work on.

Today, I decided to try a little run-off fishing. Drove up to RockCliff and spent the next 5 1/2 hours having a little casting practice i did miss 18 or so fish- i saw every hit, but with strong currents, i just couldnt control the slack line like i would like, and well...i wanted a challenge... and this time I lost.

I will tell you about 1 hit/attack I had...I had cast my streamer(incidentally all I threw today was streamers) up stream and I'm just ripping the the line back...the fly gets next to a root ball, about 8' upstream of me. At that point I lose the line, just as the great jaws of hell open up and half of the big fish exploded out of the water. It was so close to me that it actually scared me....I never could get that pig to show himself again....but I know where he is for next time!

Not wanting to end the day skunked, I rode on down to below the dam...I have a couple of honey-holes that don't get fished too often, and sure as shit, 1 cast-1 fish landed...the skunk was gone. I goofed off(more casting practice) waiting for the sun to go behind the hills, that's when I started to realize I hadn't eaten, or had anything to drink all day(except a few shots of whiskey from the flask)...so I called it a day.

Adding a pic of the flies I ties up, and used today.

Least productive river / stream is the one you never fish!
I'm not sure if there are any fish actually in it but how about the stream coming out of sundance ? Tried it twice in the past for about half hour and got nothing, no bites even. Pretty little stream though.

Do you fall to the trap of assuming that your single purpose in life is to be useful?

well in my life, i find that i am much to good looking to be considered useless, so ergo, i am useful

Finding your individual bliss may include achievement, but the full, balanced range of your existence may encompass times where being unproductive is just as desirable.

I refer to my statment above about my stunning good looks, therefore my desirability is through the roof

Here are a few ideas for enjoying free or affordable fun, all the while displaying a marked lack of productivity.

unfortunatly having such stunning features, i am always productive, you know with modeling european cut man thongs and such, and I typically wear them backwards

A *removed* will help you pay for the things you want to do that cost money.

[#ff0000]i did not delete your post because in my eyes, spammers are filth, and i wanted to have some fun with you while at the same time proving that you are worthless.... kochanut

since this was posted well over a year ago i hope you found some new water, if not, and are willing to travel, give the south fork a shot, or henrys fork, or the dream stream in CO, or if your really feeling lucky, trying fishing the Hog Trough on the Taylor in CO. those rivers will really pout you in your place

Ever fished the East Fork of the Sevier? In Kingston Canyon near Antimony? It was OFF THE CHARTS fantastic this past weekend. My husband and I fished it for about 4-5 hours on Saturday & caught 40+ fish. Mostly rainbows & browns. The surpise of the day was a 19 inch cutty I caught. The fish were very healthy & the scenery is beautiful. A WIN WIN!

The East Fork in Black Canyon is even better, IMO....and, the Sevier in Marysvale Canyon and the Sevier near Hatch are also very good! Don't pass any of that water up!
