oakley is on fire

fished Oakley today from 9 to 4 and boated 50 fish between wife best friend and I. fishing was a little slow first thing and lake trolls and Thomas boyants were the ticket. by 10 30 skunk buggers were having the fish right and left with multiple hookups at the same time. we had our best day ever on that body of water and they were all very nice fish.

I've never fished Oakley before and I was thinking about taking my 2 sons and doing a camp out there next weekend. I've fished Salmon Falls Res. many times for walleyes and have talked about getting to Oakley for years but just haven't done it. Looks like the trout are awesome! Did you find any walleyes while you were there?

we didn't find any eyes this time the trout we were hauling in were suspended about 20 feet and the eyes hang close to 40feet deep . The week before we caught a few small ones but nothing over 14 inches. There is some good camping on up past the reservoir or a lot of people just stay by the boat ramp but there is no flat level ground or shade. its a lot like salmon dam just smaller.

He was telling me he sold his boat matter of fact didnt you text him sat morning asking what oil ratio to use? Thats great where did you fish and what did you catch ?

Yup! That was me. I took the boat out to pillar falls just to get the feel for it. Caught a dozen or more small mouth bass. Nothing too big, 14 inches was about as big as we were catching. I'm hoping to take it to hagerman in the next few days. Theres a spot i usually go that produces huge largemouths. I havent fished it since I got rid of my last boat so im excited to get back out there!

sounds like a good day. is the water still running pretty good at pillar falls? Huge large mouth huh? sounds like lee should have hid a gps transmitter on that boat lol [cool]

The water is pretty low right now. There were a ton of people docked up at pillar so we fished that small island a little down river. We typically catch a lot of quantity off of that island but the quality is a little on the small side. Those largemouths in hagerman are beyond fun to catch! PM me and id gladly let you know the spot i tend to find the big bad ones.

Thinking of possibly heading towards that direction on Sunday...tomorrow. Thanks for the pics, wife loves trout and smoking a few would make her really happy.
I am just not sure about going that far with the turn in the weather the last couple of days.. oh well, the fish are already wet, so it is not like they care..

It will be a long day driving from boise to there and back all in the same day, but no longer than some other day fishing trips. Will just get up early. I think you posted directions how to get there for me once before.

If the weather is a little better we will be up there tomorrow also so if you see a little tan and maroon crestliner stop and say howdy. We went up there today to get mountain flowers and paint brush for family's grave sites and there wasn't to many people camped out there. only two boats out. That will be a long drive the weather report is kinda iffy so I don't know if driving that far would be worth it unless you have a covered boat. No problem at all glad to help [cool]
