GoldiCat and the Three Bears
#1
After a travel adventure up-down river on Sunday, with little fish love to show for the time out . . . Did work my way into some shallow zones - fine with the wind blowing me in, but poling me-way back out, too shallow for the 'lectric even - I ended up plunking the toes, and hoofing it through the mud until I got to deep enough water. Gush.

Shoulda brought the GPS!

Ha- entry? Not!

It was so windy and cool, I didn't even find carp flopping abouts.
Always count on a mudcat or too to shake the skunk . . . even on a bad day.

Welp - not to be dismayed - I went back at it. Took the boat and boogied from work out to the marsh. Wasn't until later eve that I started to hookup anything decent. Got the big daddy cat after moving away from one of my 'arms'. Seems like the pumps running don't favor the cats hanging. Carp don't care!

Daddy-O put up a fight, and then some. Around the boat, under the boat, back around - lucky to keep him away from the anchor rope, and other line - but he was NOT ready to quit. Fun tugs - getting that line ripped and run - finally got him to flop back into the net, with this basketball headed beast!

Had a few more bobber divers, and brought in a 19 inch chunker, and a smaller cookie at 13.5.
Weighed up at 1.5, 2.5,and 5.5 lbs each.
Hooked up a number of dinky mudcats, as usual. No other surprises this out.

Nice job Yote so is that your best to date in the contest? Did you catch Poppa at the forks there just off the island? Too bad they get so ugly when they grow up they are such cute kittens. That area you were fish'en was going to be the last spot on our flotilla but when we all got separated things changed. Anyway nice night's take. Later J

Yup - best since the contest. I had a 6#er earlier this spring, but before the contest got into swing. Those males are freaky looking - all purple lips, and they seem to have really wide jowels and mouth.

I was closer to Benson launch - stupid gas motor didn't want to play nice. Ran me pretty good Sunday - I did go up to the forks then - went to the third river inlet (farthest north) then dropped back out the first - farthest south. I was gonna play around the wood out there, but - it was getting late by then. Now that I've re-reviewed the maps - I think I know where I was now...and coming up-river - I think I've realized how to get into that big horse-shoe slough.

I just haven't been finding them in my usual spots so much lately. Might need to kick in a few more warm sunny days. Think I'll be trying some more adventures below Cutler too.

When we gonna think about the floatilla down to the dam?

I think from what I've been hearing the cats are moving back into the river now so you may want to try river channels instead of sloughs. I really want to try a flotilla to the dam but I have family visiting this week so I'll have to wait until next weekish. I was thinking an after work trip from the junction launch. Go see if there are any fish there or not. I understand that gorge has mostly filled in with silt and so it's not nearly as deep as you would expect. I'd like to run the finder down there and find out for sure. I'll try to figure out when I can go and see if it works for you. Later J
