Ririe perch
#1
I am looking for a place to take the kids to get them a little more excited about fishing. Would anybody be willing to share a little how to info with me? I am wondering when the perch start getting real active? Somebody told me I could find them around black tail, but I also heard they have to be actively feeding to have a fast and furious type of day I need to keep my kids interested. Also, I would really appreciate a little better direction than, somewhere around black tail. That's a big lake and I just have a small boat.

Thanks

I have always had a lot of luck for the perch on the south side of the reservoir up close to the small islands and in the thick brush. They are usually in the water that is anywhere from 3-10 ft deep and when you find one you will find 100's

When I had a boat I would put in at Juniper and head directly across the reservoir and fish that south bank all the way to blacktail. The best place was right around the island that is just across and east from juniper.

Good Luck!

There are hundreds of SMALL perch at Roberts Gravel Pond. Lots of catching, but it would take forever to fillet the little buggers.

Roberts is a great place to take kids! When it was iced over we filled a 5 gallon bucket in a matter of hours...there are literally thousands of perch in there and they will hit just about anything, including a bare hook!

The only problem is all the perch are around 3-5 inches...that being said ririe does not have very big perch either.

I would argue the claim that Riries perch aren't very big when comparing to Roberts. They definitely aren't Cascade big, but averaging in the 9-11" range the last few years is nothing to scoff at. As for finding some I'm no good at it this time of year it seems. I will usually do better later on. However I have been told to try all the little side coves anywhere on the res and if you find one there are usually plenty more.

I caught several 11-12"ers at Ririe ice fishing. Pretty big for around here.

But it's not fair to compare ourselves to you windriver! You always catch monster fish, especially through the hard deck!

I have to agree there are some good perch in Ririe...but there are much better fisheries to find bigger perch, even in SE Idaho.
