pumpkinseed???
#1
Hello, I was looking around the area lakes by preston and was wondering if anyone is or has caught any pumpkinseed fish?

I have always wanted to catch some. they sure look to have some great colors on them and would like to try it in the next day or 2. I just want to catch photo and release em.[Smile] I love to bass and panfish so any information would be great and can give some info back on how it was when i get home. thanks and good luck fishing

Ive caught some at the power plant just below Oneida res. On the far side that you have to walk across the foot bridge down stream to get too. There is some pretty shallow weed beds on that side that they hang out in pretty much all the time.

Carey lake has them, we used to go over and catch them by the bucket full. There's also perch, bullhead, and I believe bluegill if I remember correctly.

I'm pretty sure all the sunfish in the Oneida area are green sunfish. They do have some similar coloration, but their mouths are larger and their bodies aren't as flat and broad as the pumpkinseed's.

The sunfish in Oneida Reservoir and below the dam are green sunfish. They are colorful but not as pretty as the Pumpkinseed sunfish found in Carey Lake just outside of Carey, Idaho. Somewhere in the Twin Falls region there are also Pumpkinseed sunfish.

Thanks alot for all the information. I got up early and headed out for the Preston this morning as I got the day off work[cool]

I got over there about 7am to try some of my newest custom plastics I made special for the trip to do some field testing to a toasty warm 42 degs[frown] Nothing like hot hot hot weather and fish on for other anglers then my day off big drop in temps and steady fishing, not hot but always fun. only saw 66degs today.

I fished at Glendale and missed a couple bass there and caught some small perch and a small rainbow.

then I moved over to Johnson res. It was really muddy water there I think maybe from all the wind the day before. I caught some bluegills and a few perch and one small rainbow

Then on to Oneida where the wind was blowing air not to warm and rain on the way. Just a little time to fish and lost a nice smallmouth and a few follow ups. I also got some small green sunfish before i had to go. The new plastics did the trick today and cant wait to get back out again[cool]
