saltyduck, CBA Night tournament, Not quite enough, 7.21, Dad
#1
Well I hadn't been on the water since last Friday night when Mocs Tr-20 and I finished 2nd in the CFF night tourney, but felt like we would have a pretty good night, but knew I needed to get a couple of big bites to finish in the money. We started out ledge fishing, and on about my 10th cast of the marathon set the hook and yelled for dad to grab the net as I knew it was a pretty good fish, and dad secured our 1st fish with a fine net job, and it weighed 5.4# on our scales, not a bad way to start the tourney, and hopefully a sign of what was to come, nope! About 20 minutes later managed a 3.6#, and then 2 smaller keepers before dark. After weighing and getting our 4th fish in the livewell, I got back up-front to get back into position when dad's rod about went into the water, oops it was caught in the trolling motor. After minor surgery and pulling 20 yards of line out of the prop we were ready again! Fished another 30 minutes with nothing so we moved upriver. About 11PM we got our 5th keeper in the boat a 3.12#. About that time I got a call from Dysart saying to take cover as there was a bad storm in Chester Frost. We could see the storm downriver and it just missed us by about half a mile. Around 1:30, it had been nearly 2 and half hours since we caught a fish, I called Brent (Mocs Tr20), and they had just had an awesome flurry of fish including a giant over 7# and had over 21# in the box. To add insult to injury we continued to bounce around and went a total of 5 hours without a fish. We hit a decent little flury around 4AM, and culled twice including a 3.8#. About 4:30 we decided to run back down to where we started as we expected a good morning bite. At around 4:30AM we culled again with a 3.10#, and making the smallest fish in our livewell a 3.6#. As daylight approached the bite was on-fire and we caught probably 3 limits of fish from 5AM-6AM, but nothing over three pounds so we weren't able to upgrade at this spot. With about an hour till weigh in, we decided to hit some grass in the Chester Frost, man was the fog bad in the park! I could here people talking but couldn't see them! We caught 7 or 8 more keepers in the park but nothing over 2.5#'s. Got to weigh-in and as I approached the scales, Damon says to me you better have 24#'s since I picked you guys to win, "do you?" Nope! Sorry Damon! The scales showed 19.?? I was so tired I can't remember our weight, it was between 19.68-19.86, I will have to wait for the results to post to see what we had. It was a good evening on the water, with a good number of fish being caught, but the big bite eluded us again. Not sure where we finished but towards the end of weigh-in I asked JMax if we were out of the money, and he so kindly stated that we were 1st place out of the money at that point emoBang Thanks Jmax for adding insult to injury Wink

All fish were caught in 8-20FOW, either river ledges or grass near deep water, and all fish came on plastics either t-rig or shakeys.

Congrats to the winners and as always a great job done by the officers at blast-off and weigh-in! See everyone at the August night tournament!
