SFCR
#1
Well got up early to head out this morning, say 5:15 and the to my surprise here comes my wife, I thought to give me a goodbye kiss, but no she says, if you'll make me a sandwich I'll come too. Off to the kitchen I went and made a couple of load adjustments and we were headed to SFCR.

What a beautifull day[cool]. Unloaded at Greys and headed to the Goose Island area for some walleye and maybe a crappie or perch. Well Gloria was first to snag, but not the bottom but a 13" walleye, I followed with a 19" rainbow who just had to run and run[Wink]

We followed up with about 7 more walleye all in the same size range and then a feww more smaller. We found 2 legal bass and a couple more very short ones.

No perch but we did land a few 9" crappie.
I was using my fly rod and Gloria was using my ultralight. She really had fun[Smile]

We set up the bimie and she took a 2 hr nap and I found a couple more "cigar" eye's and something big[shocked] it dove and dove and the took off for the shoreline and my 6wt 9" fly rod was bent like a U, I knew I was in trouble but the trouble was not the rod but my knot, improved cinch even wetted it, casue it took off with both my flies.

I am pretty sure the knot slipped out cause the end of the leader looked like a spring, like when you take ribbon and make it curly[pirate] Need to find something more reliable, knot wise[crazy]

I was a little concerned about the bimi and casting the fly rod, but it worked really well. Still lots to learn about the boat and gear, whats necessary and whats not, but things are working better[blush]

I also need to learn to take pictures like I used to or have Gloria take pictures.

Howdy to grndsguy nice to have met you.

Awesome report!

Glad you found some fish! What type of fly patterns were you throwing and with what type of fly line? Were you trolling or stripping?

I still have yet to catch a walleye on my fly rod and it's on my list of things to do this summer.

Congrats on a great day with your wife.

Sorry, like I said I need to remember to snap the shots. Had the canera but I only took one of my wife in the boat and wind , so nope you probably won't see that on the www. so I did miss a lot of photo opportunities.

You need to be on or very near the bottom, so I am using a #6 sink rate line and I like the clouser minnow and trailed any dark wolly bugger type. I caught call of the species on both patterns.

Also left a few in the "rockfish, they just grab on and never let go[Wink] I use that as an indicator if I am getting down to the bottom[sly]

"The one that got away" still has 2 flies he or she is trolling around with[laugh] wonder how he is doing on the "catching" that could really be interesting[shocked]

If you can let me know when you might be coming to SFCR I could see if I could show you around[cool] Eye's can be caught anywhere but they like transition areas and sand to rocky, rocky to dropoffs etc. plus they love crawdads[fishin]

Nice to have met you to Michael.

Sounds like our days mirrored each other. We fished jigs all day. We caught a bunch of 12 to 14 inch eyes, perch and trout with a couple keeper bass thrown in.

My grandson hooked a bigger eye i guessed to be around 20" but we lost it at he boat in a netting job he won't soon let me forget.

Very nice report Michael. I'm glad that Gloria got into some too. When do the 'eyes' turn off due to heat?
