Dying to Catfish need help
#1
My dad and I have been dying to go catfishing any info on where to go or how to catch them is much appreciated. I only have a small North Pak inflatable boat so I can't get to somewhere like bird island. I live in Orem and hear Utah Lake is the place to catch 'em.
But are the community ponds also good?

Utah lake is great. Anywhere, really, is a good place to cat fish. Worms are always good, but chub minnows or carp meat, along with white bass meat work great. Under a bobber or just on the bottom -- both work fine. With the water so low, they're not really in the spots that they ought to be -- I think -- so that means they could be anywhere.

Look up some of TubeDude's maps. I'm thinking you'd be able to launch your inflatable at the public beach just south of the Lindon marina and paddle out to the buoys along the bubbleup pipeline & get into them. Try using about 2" to 3" frozen minnows from Cabelas, Sportsmans or FishTec. Use a big (2/0) hook. Put it through the eyes then turn it & run the point completely back through the body just behind the head. Toss it out weightless & leave your bail open or reel out of gear. When the line takes off, let them have it for 5 -10 seconds then take up the slack. When you feel weight, hit em hard enough to cross their eyes. Then have fun.

Thanks for the information I plan to catfish this Saturday night at the Bubbleup.
Will giving the fish time before setting the hook let it swallow the hook? I don't plan on eating any of them so I would like the safest way for the fish even if it means losing some. Also what pound line should I have? Like 8

My twin and I were at the Sandy Pond 2 days ago and I saw a guy pull out a few on shrimp. My boss took my advice and hit the Willow Pond and caught 3 channel cats on a worm and bobber. So I would guess that the community ponds still have a few hold over cats from the summer stockings.

I was at the bubble up on Sunday eve until the lightning started about 8pm. Caught 1 decent white bass. The rest was 12cookie cutter mudders and 1 baby channel with a bunch of misses. Not huge but fun tugs. Used worms and wb chunks. Fished the farthest buoy out about 5 feet. I'm fishing Lincoln beach on Sunday unless I convince myself to go to the berry instead. Good luck!
