Nice Grayling by Utah standards....although they do not fight as hard as the other finned ocuppants of the high uinta lakes....they sure are pretty!

When you hook a grayling of 16", you'll be surprised your line held.
Really. They're beasts when they get big, at least, where I've taken big ones. Very surprising fight.
That grayling record isn't going to last very much longer. I know people who were catching near-record grayling 2 years ago. They weren't keeping score, but the photos I saw were pretty convincing.
I might run into some this weekend, if I can get over there...
To the OP, those are pretty nice. Definitely noteworthy catches. If I were him, I'd also be excited.

Nice fish. You catch them because their different and pretty- especially when the sunlight shines through their sail. I've caught some 14-15 inch grayling and I have to agree with ETDT- worse fighting fish even in moving water let alone stillwater. Pound for pound only lake trout is lower in my book.

I do agree that the grayling record is going to be beat very soon. I was talking to an angler that slipped me the name of the lake that will beat it. When I mention it to the fish shop guys they gasp and tell me to shoosh. Whenever I can get someone with a 4WD to take me there I will try to land the monster.
However I think the grayling fight was over-dramatized when others told me about it. My largest was 13.5 inches and I was not impressed very much by the fight. And that was on the fly rod. Still a very pretty fish to catch though and worth pursuing.
