Henry's Lake Report 9/27/2012 WITH VIDEO

Henry's Lake is starting to get pretty good. A buddy and I went up on 9/27/2012 for a few hours in the morning and did really well. Between the 2 of us we boated about 30 fish in 4 hours. We didn't catch any real trophies, but most fish were in the 17-22 inch class. This was by far my best day at Henry's Lake. I never do good at Henry's so this trip really made me happy. I hope to get up there and fish one or two more times before my 60-2 deer hunt starts on 10/5. If you're heading up, be ready to have company if you're catching fish. The second one of us hooked one it was like a race for the other boats to get 100 yards from us. Oh, and I missed hooking a 10 pound fish on one of my first casts. Real bummer for sure!

The trip was also really awesome because early in the morning when we first got on the lake, a few coyotes were barking and yelping across the lake. Then over the mountain side you hear what was an obvious wolf howl. It was much louder and deeper than the coyotes!

Great video. I have the same problem. Those 10lbers just come off[cool] But my idea of a 10lber may differ from yours LOL

lol..I wish you could see the actual fish chasing the lure to the boat in the video like I saw with my eyes. I don't know how big it was but if I were to compare it to something I'd say a dolphin. ha ha

Bummer that you lost the big one. It would appear from your video that the average size of the fish is way down from what it used to be?

I couldn't tell you anything about the average size fish because I hardly ever catch anything there. lol I usually only catch 6" dinks or one fish 5 pounds or more..

I am curious why you said a weight for the lost fish instead of size. Weight is impossible to guess, but size is doable. I do know what a 10lb Henry's Cutt looks like though...[]

It appears to me that 10lber is easy to add as description especially to missed fish.

interesting to see the another bass video by same youtube user also posted miss of a 10lb bass....truth is wish I was out there missing them myself...

10lb ref must be another way to stir conversation.

I understand the gaff, because there is an unspoken law, perhaps some of you have noticed it; Fish in streams are measured by length, fish in lakes are measured by weight. I prefer using metric grams and millimeters as my units, but it bugs people. My perception is that inches and pounds are the preferred nomenclatures for rivers and lakes respectively, by way of tacit social contract. However, if I thought I had a 10lber on, I like to think I'd have the manners not to make that claim on a fishing forum.
Spring 2011 at Henry's, maybe, just maybe, I might have had the State record Brookie on my line, he rolled right in front of the boat and unhooked himself in the process; looked pretty big to me, and I've landed 5lb brookies before. It is irresponsible to make a claim like that claim publicly, so I've never mentioned to anyone just how big that fish was, until now, including my own father who was fishing in another boat near me. It was just a big brookie I lost. That said, no harm no foul.

But, I do believe no one can guess the weight of a fish. Come close maybe, but if the fish is in the water, no way.
Now length, much easier. Stick a rod next to it, pull along the side of a boat/tube/pontoon. Put something next to it.
Had a disagreement awhile back when a claim of 5 lber was made and I reference a bag of sugar. I was told it was not the same?
I will say you can guess close with length and girth, but again under water, not so much. My friend that caught the 10lber at H with a 17" girth. Scale on hand was 10.4

Personally I could careless if they guy said it was a 10lber, unless yall have some concrete proof it wasn't........your claims it wasn't are just as in valad as his is that it was a 10......what we have is a wash. Instead maybe thank the guy for putting the effort into recording his fishing with a POV camera, taking the time to edit it, upload it to youtube and then share it with everyone here.......lot of effort to have people complain In my opinion.

To the OP, thanks for sharing man. I know the effort it takes and if you want to make a claim, go right ahead. We are fisherman we are known for maybe bending the truth to the large side of things.

I agree there are no real rules to posting valid/invalid assumptions of missed fished.

I actually agree the video and editing effort are top notch...I appreciate the effort made to post it....very few of us have the skillz to do so.....

No question the post was great and the video entertaining. Just making light of the weight guess on a lost fish. Like I said, all my lost fish are at LEAST 10lb or in my case 28" []
