Thoughts on Starvy?
#1
I am headed there this friday and taking an 8 year old that has never fished. I am hoping to put him on a couple nice trout and then catch a ton of perch.
We will be in a boat. Does anybody know the ramp conditions at the State Park?
I fished there a couple of times this year( July was my last trip there) and was just hoping one of you fine people that may have been there recently can give me some tips?
Pm's welcome.

+Ramp is in good condition, steep, but it is being used without problems as far as I could see. Don,t know anything about fishing from a boat but I did see someone catching something shortly after launching that got them pretty excited.

[cool][#0000ff]No recent good reports of perch catches. But one from about two weeks ago reported seeing lots of perchy blips on the bottom in DEEP water...up to 60 feet.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Last good perch reports were from under the bridge...on perch suspended off the bottom in 40 to 45 feet of water. That might be a good place to start looking and then work shallower or deeper until you find some.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Last year there were some good late season open water perch taken near the dam...out off where the shoreline merges with the dam on the west side. But with the water levels so much lower this year the conditions could be very different.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Another good late season spot can be right off the long point that is between Rabbit Gulch and the main channel going toward the bridge. There are a couple of flat spots out there that are good from late fall through the winter ice fishing.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Good luck. Waiting for your report.[/#0000ff]

Thanks Pat.
The flats have treated me well but generally smaller fish. Quantity on this trip trumps quality so I will most likely end up there after we catch some bows.
I will let you know how it goes.
I am going to try the JR in the morning to get warmed up!

[cool][#0000ff]You're going to need something warm for Starvy on Friday. Forecast for nice but 23 degrees early. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Fall spawning trout are busy around the shallows to keep your stick bent for a while. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Good luck on the perch...or maybe a walleye. I heard they have some in there. Jordan River too.[/#0000ff]

went fishing there last week. weather has been cool. but no snow or ice yet. the ramp is still open and there is no park rangers there. they have a fee station right at the ramp but no envelope. i called fish-n-game and they said they have not been checking it because the park is under construction (putting in new building and camp ground spots). the fishing was hot for rainbows northeast of the bridge. used down riggers to set lines at 20-25 feet of water. it was like fishing in a stock pond. didn't fish for perch. good luck. maybe i'll see you there, if the wife will let me go again.
