Nice N' Icy Sulpher Creek Report

[font "Alfredo's Dance"][#004080][size 3]My brother has gone with us to the Uinta's a few times so we decided to check out Sulpher Creek just east of Evanston on Wy 150 with him this weekend. (Totally agianst my will! [] )

We headed up around 9am and fished the west side of the dam 1st for about 30 mins. Nadda [:/] We decided to try the middle of dam just east of the spillway and bam! Fish everywhere! Fished 20-30' from the shore and caught 7 fish including 1 16" brown over the next 2 hours.

Had several that got away also because they're mostly light biters so fishing more by sight might be an option you'll want to try.

All fish were definatly long and healthy and had some bright colors on. Most between 14-17". Not quite at fat as the Uinta fish we've been catching but were not exactly 'skinny's' either. Averaging around 1-1 1/2 lbs. All caught were keepable and will taste good on the plate []

It was snowing, foggy, and the wind was blowing, that made for a very chilly day so if ya head up be ready for the cold but, you'll have fun!

Nice stringer of fish! Is Sulphur Creek in Wyoming or Utah? What's your favorite way to prep the fish? Ever bottled them? That's what I do with most of the fish I catch. Good report!

Nice report. Sounds like you had a great time despite the "against your will" segment. I don't know how many times I've been "drug" to a fishin hole that I wasn't particularly fond of or wasn't my choice, only to have a great day and awesome fishing. FFM - The Res is in Wyoming on the back way into Mirror. Had to pick up a Wyoming Day pass, sheesh!

We usually will grill them wrapped in tinfoil loaded w/butter and lemon pepper but i've been looking for a little something different to try. How do you bottle them? Don't think I've tried that before.

BC - Yea, I'd been iffy about the place since we'd taken my son there twice during the summer for his last fish on the 'fishing' merit badge and had all gotten skunked both times. I figured what the h@ll though since it was close to where we were. Glad I went [][/size][/#004080][/font]

Canning Fish!

Use only sterile 1/2 pint canning jars. I keep my jars hot in the oven @ 200 deg un til I'm ready to use them.

Clean fish until they are no longer slimy.

Cut into chunks just slightly shorter than the 1/2 pint jars

Put 1/2 tablespoon salt into"Hot" jars

put cut fish (bones & all into hot jar) put seal and ring onto jar

cover jars with about 1-2 inches of water

cook fish at 15 lbs pressure in a pressure cooker for 45 minutes.

Remove and let stand to cool down if the jars seal you will not beable to push the lid in, you usually hear an audible pop when the jars seal also.

I have a dozen or more jars of fish I've canned this year alone I eat it up just like tuna, and the bones fall apart just like sardines. Great winter snack.

One of my family and friends favorite ways of preparation is to smoke them. I have made curing marinades and bought them. If you like smoked salmon then you are in for a treat with smoked trout. Plus they stay forever and do not need to be refridgerated so they make great all time snacks, fishing, skiing, watching football whatever you like. I also will grill the trout in foil along with an herb mix called "seafood herb mix" it is a fresh herb mix from Albertsons in the cooler section in the produce. Yummy, so I have been told. Nice report and good looking fish.

I enjoy smoking them too but they're tough to light without burning off half your face. HAHAHAHAHa I used to smoke them until my smoker smoked its last, Still looking for a replacement for it.

We used to soak the fish in a brine solution them rince it out and smoke it with hardwood chips or mosquite, hichory, cherry, apple, just about anything but pine will smoke em up good.

Yepp, they are a bugger to get started! hehehe...

Another thing that polo and I tried was to soak them in 7up for a bout a half hour before putting them in the brine. We also froze them overnight in the brine then defrosted and rinsed them. They were the best I have ever had. I have a lil chief smoker right now that is a bit to small for my average afternoon. I am looking into the best propane/charcoal system for next spring.
