I decided to try and hit all the community© ponds in the state and this one is in Layton. I drove by there late this afternoon but did not have time to fish it. It is the biggest C pond I have seen so far, at 50 acres. Anyone have an hints on what I can use to catch trout or and other fish in the lake, this late in the year? Thanks

I have fished it a couple of times from shore. My kids and I were able to catch quite a few blue gill, but we could not cast beyond the moss. Next time I go, I think I'll bring my canoe to get past the weed line. This was 4 or 5 months ago too, so I am sure it has changed quite a bit with the season.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to give it a try later this week, hopefully the moss won't be a problem now. Were you using bait or lures?

We used bait I think exclusively. Many of the blue gills were really small, so we used small pieces of worm on small hooks. Hobbs pond is not too far away, and we do pretty good there with rapalas. There isn't a weed line there, and the fish were pretty hungry. We have not been there since summer, but we usually caught quite a few. You aren't allowed to bait fish there. My boys have told quite a few people they aren't allowed to fish with bait. I wish they could get a little reward for turning people in. That would be a good summer job.

Thanks for the added info. Isn't Hobbs that pond that has the steep bank?

It is steep in places, and there is a bit of a jungle of oak brush too.

That's the one...right as you turn off 89 toward Valley View GC...they put some 20+ inch cutts in there about a year ago, but haven't heard of anyone catching them. It is artificial fly and lure only. Good luck!

Then isn't there also Holmes reservoir? Or pond - or however they define it.
Though thought I'd heard you can't float that one. Is that an issue at the others?
Stopped by a couple in Brigham for the first time. Silly little planter bows.
Are there signs at the "no bait" lakes identifying as much?

Does anyone know how deep Hobbs is? I've been curious about this "experimental" trout fishery since they opened it, but have always wondered how well the trout would survive over the long run.

Sounds like you've been around them puddles for a while?
I've heard some other stories about the olden days of Holmes and such. Right near grandmas, just never have got out of the house to check it out. Maybe this winter, get the bro-n-law out!
Now I thought they had decommissioned Holmes from the CP status, and thus - were going to stop stocking the typical trout/channel offering. But they seem to still be stuffing more bows in that hole.
Stories of crappie, white bass, largies, gills, eyes - used to be quite the variety. But I'm guessing it's more bows, bass & gills now. From what I've heard.
Anyone ya'll fish along the Weber river running from the canyon along I-84? Just always get gawking at that chocolatey syrup, but just don't really know where there's access (and the Mrs never seems to want to stop and explore there or back...)
