Been watching the KSL Microcast. It is claiming tonight will drop below zero with high tomorrow in the mid to upper teens. The same temps for Thursday.
Might be fishing by Friday. Who's in?

"Might be fishing by Friday. Who's in?"

I'm almost ready for my first season of ice fishing as inspired by many warm weather posts from our fine group on desire for ice fishing while I was still getting plenty of vitamin D from Sun exposure while fishing wet water.

I'll likely come alone judging from reactions of people I know to going ice fishing. Silly Earthlings!

But, it would be nice to fish with new friends here at the "supersecret honeyhole that No One else knows about."

801sprtsmn included. He only teased super serious ice fishermen in a winter that is teasing us all. But, that's nothing compared to those wanting to disarm the civilian populations of the world.

The picture is one of many from my May 13, 2012 Mantua Reservoir fishing. This one is from my "supersecret honeyhole that No One else knows about." A huge bass lives there just waiting for me to catch it again.

I think you'll be fishing on twin ice Friday. Be ready for the plunge so you can get out if you need to. I think I'll take the boat to Hyrum instead. Later J

Also wanna consider the weakest ice on a lake is likely to be at the edges.

Plus all those trees and shrubery - make warmth.

Usually the trick is to get OUT on the ice, and then avoid the warm springs and man-eating holes!

suggestion - follow the beaten path

Thanks! That's why I'm here -- taking in ideas to try a large variety of new to me things with focus on what works and even expanding on some.

On the thinner ice on the edges and around trees, what could go wrong! Falling through just saves from having to make a hole. Also, I suspect there is no legal hole size limit resulting from falling through.

But, it seems I've been reading more that fish are preferring deeper water when the water is cold anyway. That Mantua fishing in May was my only time fishing Mantua. When might fish seek shallows and edges in and around ice fishing seasons?

I started the spring and summer with pontoon fishing and switched to shore fishing. Now, for the first part of our normal ice fishing season, I've been learning more with focus on buying more fishing supplies including ice fishing in a big way.
