Auger having issues?
#1
I purchased a Strikemaster Lazer Magnum with the Solo engine like two years ago. It's been the most powerful auger ever until this season. Starts great and runs fine at home, but took it out twice fishing and it's harder to start and seems to have less power. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Justin

Did you drain the gas out of it after last season?

I only say that cause I forgot to do that one year and took out the auger for first ice. Had a hell of a time getting it started and an even harderr time drilling a hole.

I had to take mine apart and clean all the gunk out of the gas lines and carburetor.

I use a Eskimo barracuda by the way. Its old but its all I could afford after some [#0000BF]deleted [/#0000BF]stole my brand new Mako out of my shed.

Try some Sea Foam...empty out old gas...replace with new gas and oil mixture and put Sea Foam in mixture. Sea Foam can be purchased at WalMart, O'Rielys and probably Auto Zone...stuff is Great.

Yup, K2 has your answer.
Dump the old gas and use fresh gas with Sea Foam.
Run it at home for several minutes at a time and do it several times before you take it to the reservoirs.

At the end of the season, dump the gas and run the motor till it is completely out of gas.

By the way,
I also add a second additive that is a fuel stabilizer to my mixed fuel.
I use this in all my 2 stroke engines. This includes my boat motors, snow blower and weed eater.

Also, get some fuel that does not have alcohol in it. You can check the Internet for stations around the state that carry non- alcoholic fuel. Alcohol attracts water, breaks down faster, and gums everything up. Non-alcohol fuel costs about 15-20 cents a gallon more, but is worth it. I buy mine at Tessaro on about 1100 North State in Orem, west side of the street. Used to be Stan's, don't know who owns it now !!

I got the Sea Foam. Where exactly do I put it and how much of the can should I use? Does it go in my Auger gas tank or my gallon can of fuel?

Thanks,

Justin

Take the filter out and start it without the filter.

You can do it either way; however, the easiest way is to mix it in the gallon of gas. The instructions should be on the can for the mixture rate.

fmrusmc asked a key question that I don't see answered. Did you leave fuel in it over the summer? That is a key diagnostic question.

You have either an air flow and/or a fuel flow problem, or bad fuel. Clearly you have spark.

Do you know you have good, fresh fuel in it?

If you left fuel in the tank over the summer, first of all change it out for fresh fuel. Not the stuff in your 1 gal can for a long time - fresh. Then check the fuel filter (if there is one), but most likely it is your carb jets. Seafoam *may* clear it, but a disassembly and cleaning may be needed.

To rule out issues and narrow down the probable issues: Try fresh fuel. Try running it without any air filter. Any better? Try running it without the fuel filter. Any better? If those don't point to your issue, disassemble the carb and clean out the jets with a real solvent. That is the most likely issue with a small engine anyway.

Keep your vent open on your tank while your running it as well. Sometimes it helps the flow and will give you optimal power.

might be worth a try to change the spark plug. 2 cyl engines foul the plug pretty fast. oil mix is 24 -1 on mine and it needs a new one every other year even with the synthetic oil i use.
