Packin on public is one thing, packin on private property is another. Will be interesting to watch how this plays out

I'm not sure it was a great idea but I'm glad he contacted the police before he did it. I'm glad no one got too freaked out. The problem is how would you know[:/]. I will say, I've carried a side arm into a store after going hunting but forgot I had it on, once I remembered I had it on, I was glad no one freaked out. I hope others don't try this and someone get hurt because of it.

That reminds of a joke that I heard down in Mexico.
"What kind of people only know one language?"
AMERICANS. []

Did you see the news where that guy went into a JCPenny's store in Riverdale with a rifle and a hand gun? He was trying to make a point but from the title of Tom's post, I'm guessing he thinks the guy was a clown, for doing it.

I went to a Center Mass firearm training class with a buddy and this topic came up. I absolutely hate that this guy is feeding the social media, this is what people with guns do according to the radicals. One extreme to the other. There was a gal in the class that was there for a CFP and she was told that you "couldn't store a gun in your house with bullets in it". Oh my head hurts. She was making the first step and I commend her for that, don't learn about firearms from people who don't know anything about them or the laws. If you know your rights and everything about guns-don't make us all look stupid trying to prove a point @Riverdale guy. Just venting.

Are you talking about the guy with a AR15 strapped to his back in a Pennies ?
Odd open carry is one thing strapping on a AR15 and walking through a dept is another. With the whole anti- gun bills going on it gives the anti-gun people more ammo ( no pun intended ) to fight against guns.
People like this give responsible gun owners a bad rap.

Your exactly right John. Even though he is in the scope of the law and can legally do what he did, he also is an idiot for doing this and the rest of us that are law biding citizens and support our second amendment should see that this is not common sense and just hurts us.
Furthermore, he intimidated many there. I'm still shocked no one called law enforcement to report this. He has the right to carry on PUBLIC property, but J C Penny's has the right to ask him to leave the premises.had he refused, he then could be charged with trespassing.
It's a sticky issue. There are multiple places in Ogden, like the Newgate mall that has signs posted saying no firearms allowed on the premises. This only allows law enforcement to carry a firearm on the property. I'm sure that there are dozens each day that do carry on that property however, they just keep it in their purse, under their jacket etc.
But this guy, wow, that's a black eye for us.

I am as strong of a second amendment person as there is. With that being said, this guy is an idiot.
As for a sign saying no carrying on their property, you are not violating any law that I'm aware of by carrying concealed legally. If someone knew you were carrying legally all they can do us ask you to leave. Those signs just add to the likelihood of a nut case picking their location to conduct their mass shooting or stabbing or using whatever tool they choose to conduct their evil intentions.

I'd suggest you read the laws before giving advise http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/FirearmLaws.html

Just read it again, maybe you should before trying to blast me. Restricted locations must post that they are secure areas and not legal to carry there. Those places not stated as secure areas protected by law such as the mall, resteraunt's etc, you are not violating the law by carrying legally there. They can ask you to leave, if you refuse they can have you cited for trespassing. Personally, I don't support businesses which don't support the second ammendment. In the rare times I do, I can assure you I'm not leaving my pistol in the truck.
Editing from my iPad now that I'm home.
From the link you provided.
It is unlawful for a person with or without a firearm permit to carry a firearm in the following locations:
Any secure area in which firearms are prohibited and notice of the prohibition is posted
A secure area of an airport
Any courthouse, churches if posted, mental health facility or correctional facility that may provide by rule that no firearm may be transported, sold, given, or possessed upon the facility. At least one notice shall be prominently displayed at each entrance to a secure area in which a dangerous weapon, firearm, or explosive is restricted.
*in plain English, you misread the law and I don't believe I am wrong.

you are correct sir. on a side note, if you enter an establishment such as a bank with a concealed weapon, you will not be arrested. you will be asked to leave the premises immediately which you must do (since its private property) and then you can re-enter once you have secured your weapon.
about the guy walking in to pennys with a rifle.... just because you can do it, does not mean you should.
and finally.... who cares? this would not be such a big deal if the media dident think it was. also, since folks are super sensitive now a days, im sure alot of people that were in that store were going to need a hug from daddy or mommy when they went home because they saw a gun. people are so sensitive sometimes you have to apologize for thanking them because the expect soemthing from you. people are making a big deal out of this for zero reason, hell when i was growing up we kept a shotgun in the truck to go rabbit hunting after school, and im only in my 30's so it was not that long ago, we even had a gun club at my high school.

The grade school I went to was right on the edge of town. I remember several of us kids taking our 22's to school. We had to have the bolt out of it and the clip empty when we brought it. We'd take them straight to the office and the principal would put them "securely" in the corner and the bolts & bullets in his desk. One kid had a pump 22 and he had to have the action open. When school was out, the principal would let us get our guns and go rabbit hunting. He'd always caution us not to shoot until we got past the golf course and to never shoot back toward town. Don't expect that would happen today. Maybe in a one room country school like my daughter taught in at Stoneville SD. The nearest neighbor there was about two miles away though.
