Hot Spot?
#1
Hello all!

I'm wanting to take my son that will be 2 years old next month on his first ice fishing trip this weekend. I know his attention span will not last for long if the fishing is not fairly steady. I have ice hut, heater, and everything to keep him warm and comfortable. I just need to know where I can take him were the bite is hot? Are the perch biting good at Pineview? Where on Pineview? Or any other suggestions? If you don't what to give out a secret spot or to much info to everyone please PM me. I just want my son Hayden to have a good time on his first fishing trip I can't wait to take him!

Thanks Tex

Good luck, where ever you go!, Just be sure to keep him warm, cuz I about took the Ice fishing out of my kid when she was young, by letting her get cold.

Take him to Pineveiw south side of cemetary point, cove right off the parking lot, 20 to 30 ft of water, very short walk, the action was consistent through out the day on sunday. The perch are cookie cutter size about 7 ".

Thanks Fishnutts!

I usually fish Pineview 3 times a week this time of year but have not even hit it yet this year I have either been to busy with school or down hitting starvation for those big slab perch! I'm excited to get out on pineview for some big slab crappie, but I can't take my boy at 3 am for the crappie. I will just take him for an hour or so, so I don't overwhelm or bore him.

I was at East Canyon today and had fish coming through practically all day. Not a bad walk either. I take my grandson there when he goes with me because he stays interested. There was some wind today and that would have made it a bit cold had I not had my tent.

For Echo just take I-80 east to coalville, about 45 min I think, You will see the signs for Echo. For pineview take I-80 to I-15. Go to Ogden 12th street exit. Turn east and go up through Ogden Canyon to pineview.

Ahhh, the married father with kids trying to get in a little fishing for himself and a young son! Awesome, and I remember it well. I also remember some trips where Sadly, I wasn't patient enough, or whatever. You'll do better, I'm sure.

I go so far as to bring a sleeping bag a d hot water bottles with a small guy along. Also, something besides fishing, like a phone with games. Even if fishing is good attn will shift away, and come back to the fishing periodically.

Take several baits, because I have had days when they only liked one thing. Also, I fish with a small ice lure and spring bobber for perch, but a kid might have trouble with the "touch" that requires. On my most recent trip, I learned the value of spoons rigged with chains/swivels and hooks below. They sink faster and are easier to manage getting line down the hole, etc. Easier to find the bottom, line stays tight making bites detector w/o spring bobber. I got into a pattern of hitting the bottom, raising a few inches, waiting a few seconds, and then jigging kinda hard and caught lots of fish I never saw or felt bite. Maybe a good tactic for a little boy.

And let me in on where to find the big Starvy perch, if you like, or let me know next time you head out, cuz we got skunked tuesday. Good luck.
