That is why I am hooked on catching those beautiful huge fish. Come spring I will be up there on The Snake River again. BLM, thanks for sharing.

Nice fish BLM. I'll bet your wife had a great time catching that monster. I second aquaman's question...what do they taste like?

Sturgeon are excellent tablefare. They have no bones but a cartiladge system. We steak them out. You can cook them similarly to halibut. They are mild tasting and acquire the flavors it is cooked with.
My brother used to be a fanatical sturgeon fisherman. He was pretty good at it. He has won a few sturgeon tourneys in the Bay Area a few years back and has caught a few fish in the 7' range. My largest was a little over 50".

Hey BLM...
LOL, when I read that your wife's fish was 71 1/2", I was going to accuse you of chopping off some of its tail so that it would fit into the slot. Har Har!! But the tail looks clean to me [cool] Now that's a good catch!! And yes, sturgeon are really tasty!! A lot of the local riverside restaraunts around here have got sturgeon on the menu. Good stuff!! I haven't caught one quite that large yet myself, however, I was on a party boat once when a guy caught one that measured 96"!! It was pretty exciting to watch. He was basically using what you'd call a "flippin' stick" for freshwater bass fishing with 20lb test!! It was pretty cool. Infact, my dad got pictures of it, and I'm sure it's laying somewhere around the house. I'll have to take a look around...
