So after flaking out on Saturday fishing, and hearing rave reports of some serious perch plucking, Lavaman and I just HAD to get out for a good perch bash. So off to Newton at the crack of dawn. Didn't take long to find some used holes, punch through, drop down, and start hooking up. We were in pretty shallow, and it seemed - so were the Perch. Stuck on some waxies and some mousies, and it was game-on!

It was nice to get back on the hard-deck. Been about a month since me and the boy have had a trip out. Funnest perch-fest we've had this year. The bit was light, but frequent. Kinda came and went in waves, but they seemed pretty open to about every offering we made. But sometimes smaller is better.

Ice was several inches on the old holes, and fresh ice took me down to the last twist of the auger. Mostly frozen snow/slush, but then that last few inches of clear ice was pretty rock hard. Luckily our first holes were plenty productive, so we didn't have to move around.

Most of the perch fell around the 8" mark, with the biggest at a 10-spot. My son caught that one. We all could have limited out, and at that released about a dozen dinkers each. But we really didn't run into much of the dinky tiny tots. Edges were good, and the sun came out to warm things up, unfortunately it brought the wind about the same time. All in all a great day out, good company, decent weather (never even popped a tent) got to see fish on the camera, and see a bunch piled on the ice too. Now I've got some work ahead of me. This will be Lava's first time to try perch - I'll be interested to hear how it goes over. Dinner's at 7.
