Willard North CLOSED due to fuel spill
#1
A diesel pipeline leak near the north marina has resulted in the north marina and campgrounds to be totally closed until further notice. No diesel fuel is reported to have gotten into Willard Bay itself, however.

Park officials are hurrying to open the south marina so users can have some access to the bay. See link below:

Glad to see the south opening but that sucks about the spill and the north closure.

Thanks for the heads-up.
I hope it will be cleaned up soon.
I'm itching to get the boat inside the North Marina for some Crappie action.

Kinda wondering about these two quotes from the KSL article. May be i am Confused, but is that not a picture of the reservoir by the North marina with containment booms deployed?

"At this point in time, there is no indication" that anything leaked into Willard Bay"

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation said in a news release the fuel spilled into Willard Creek, where it was contained by a beaver dam. None of the fuel made its way to the reservoir, the agency reported."

Didn't see the picture, but I'm sure they deployed containment booms just in case some diesel does make it to the bay itself. They'd look pretty stupid if they didn't lay the booms and some did.

i found it kind of interesting how much of the article was towards the beavers and the efforts they are taking to help them out. I like beavers and im glad they are doing something to help them out. but what about the fish that could possible be endangered? This is a question for anybody... how much diesel would soak into the ground to later be part of the rain water and flow into Willard? cam they possibly get all the diesel from the soil?

Just to keep this near the top of the page - and so it doesn't get posted a third time.

If you have watched a clean up effort they will dig a really big hole where the spill was then incinerate the dirt. They will bring in clean fill and work on revegitation. Do they get it all? Dunno. But I am sure they will get enough that there wont be a big impact. How many boats have oil leaks, spill gas etc every year. How much oil is washed off the paved road in the area. Hard to say but I imagine it is more than what will be left when they are done cleaning
