2/8/2013 - Water level 3603 - No Launching Possible at Hite until level rises above at least 3608
When lake rises use the primitive ramp furthest south. Look for a courtesy dock normally placed by the best primitive launch area.

Be very careful and look before launching!
Currently no launching restrictions in place since it is still technically self-certification unless an NPS Ranger is on duty.

I have been speaking to a lady at the Hite ranger station about this weekly, and as of right now she says it is not possible to launch anything other than a very small boat anywhere around Hite. She mentioned a primitive dirt launch area a few miles up the lake but I have heard the road to get to it isn't very nice and again the size of boat you can launch from it is limited.

Hite is a big mud flat. You have to get all the way down to Farley's and Striper City before you even get to Lake Powell.

To launch a boat, you will be forced to go to BullFrog. Even launching at Blue Notch is currently sketchy...

Glen canyon rec area (nps) has a Facebook page and you can ask and get info from them. Also goto their website on nps.gov and send them an email.

Sounds like it might be above water for some time. Hope it changes I like hite myself, not as long a drive and decent.

I think you're right. It's going to be a while (if ever) before we see water at Hite again.

I think if anglers put some pressure on the GCNRA we could get a boat ramp in Farley's. I know that the DWR has tried to get this going, and even offered money, equipment, and supplies to do it. We just need to get the park on board...

I went by Farley canyon in October of 2011 and you couldn't even see the water there. I remember back in 97' water was a lot higher. What was under water then is now high and dry.

I think a floating marina around good hope would work better in the long term. I dont mind the boat ride up lake from bullfrog but lack of fuel when you get there sucks!![:/]

Nothing like spending time trolling starring at the gas gauge!

in October of 2011? We fished it in November of 2011. In fact, we launched an 18' ski boat (from the Hite launch ramp), and were trolling at the mouth of the Dirty Devil catching stripers in November 2011. The lake is A LOT lower now than it was then, but my understanding is that Farley's still has water. Yes, I know it's low -- which is an even better reason to get a boat ramp put in right now.

Anyway -- I have a feeling that what we are currently seeing for lake level at Powell is going to be the "new normal" lake level.

Maybe the nps could lengthen hite while its low? I would hope that this level is not the new norm. I know it's been low in years past but keeping it low not a good idea.

I think it would be a good idea to put some more ramp in, but the ramp wouldn't be at a good launch angle I hear its just a flat muddy mess. Last year i went in the spring and found the ramp to be high and dry, but the old marina road that is just a rocky point worked OK. The Pontoon needs alot more water to launch because they sit up so high on the trailer. I took 4 five gal jugs with me and went to camp at good hope, we fished for 4 days came back and dumped them into the truck all the way back home. It was nice. I remember camping in a trailer at farleys back in the day with our trailer and water was nice and high. I don't think it will ever get back to that point.

You'd have to lengthen Hite's ramp by 5 miles to get it to the lake!

Right now, there is no lake until you get down to Striper City and the mouth of Farley's. Hite is nothing more than the river and mud flats. If you stop at the overlook above Hite, and use binoculars to look towards the mouth of Farley / White Canyon -- you might be able to see lake...

I thought I had a picture from the overlook from February, but I can't find it. I'll see what I have on the camera at home.

Now that's low, Farley would make a good ramp area
