Hey everyone, I have been stalking this board for a couple of months and decided that I should finally join. I'm a transplant from Utah and I am getting my taste for fishing here in Nevada. So my question is this...I am taking my 5 year old and 3 year old daughters fishing this Saturday.
I'm wondering which of the urban pond would be the best place to take them. Ideally, I would take them up north to Kirch or Eagle but 3 hours round trip by myself doesn't sound appealing right now. So I was wondering what everyone's input would be on either Floyd Lamb or Sunset Park. I have fished both to varying degrees of success but that was when the trout plants were in full swing. Now that catfish is being planted which one would you recommend? I will probably be lure fishing for bass, were the girls will me bait fishing. Any input ans suggestions would be appreciated. So I am thinking Floyd Lamb Park...Does anyone know which lake they stock with the catfish?

The first one (Tule Springs & the biggest pond there)
They stock it over on the far side by the white pump house.

Welcome to the forum, Toadie. Thanks for joining and posting. I'd suggest earthworms for bait. You can sweeten the deal by getting a tube of "rotten shad" catfish scent at walmart. It comes in a tube that looks kind of like DAP silicone. It really doesn't smell that bad, it is molasses based and can really help the bite.

Thanks for the advise Erawk. I look high and low for the little stinker rotten shad but couldn't find any anywhere.
So I took the girls to Floyd Lamb and didn't catch anything. I was using night crawlers and meal worms. I'm un-use to bait fishing. The closest I come to bait fishing is using a plastic worm or grub. Do any of you have any advise on what bait to use to catch a catfish?? I really want my girls to catch something besides moss. Any advise and tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I used to have good luck in the lowest pond for bluegills. Really simple, piece of night crawler about 18 inches under a bobber on a small hook and you should be busy unhooking gills!

You want a super light and easy to pull under bobber for best detection w/gills. Add split shots as necessary so that the bobber can go down easily. So in a nutshell I always used some form of weight on that type of set-up for gills. I never used nightcrawlers or parts of them. Meal worms were the way to go for me plus you get like 50 of them in a foam box. I have emptied 2 boxes of meal worms more than once at Floyd with my 2 daughters.

Thanks for all the advise!! I don't bait fish at all so this is all new to me. I'll have to give it a try and see if I can manage to catch something a Floyd Lamb. Been skunked so many times there.

Get some salmon egg hooks for the meal worms.
Set it up under a small bobber with a splitshot between the bobber and hook, like wolfs said. Move around if you're not having any luck after a while in a particular spot. Fish on! [fishin]

Took my daughter out last Sat to FLP and finally caught some fish!!! Granted they were bluegill but she really enjoyed catching them. Had to have caught between 30 or 40 bluegill. We ended up keeping two and having some very good fish nuggets that night. Now I get to take the other daughter on a daddy-daughter fishing day.
