New DWR online surveys
#1
[#0000ff]I got a headsup on some new surveys posted on the DWR website. Here is a copy and paste, with live links to the surveys.[/#0000ff]

The DWR occasionally conducts surveys to provide the public an additional way to share your thoughts and opinions with us. The responses we get from these surveys help us make better fisheries-management decisions.

Statewide survey:

Your feedback will help us finalize our regulation proposals for 2014. Those proposals will go to the public and Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) in September and to the Wildlife Board in November.

Southern Region surveys:

This survey will provide valuable information we can use to make more informed decisions in managing one of Utah's important cold-water fisheries.

Redmond Lake
Northern pike, common carp and a small population of largemouth bass are present in the lake. We also stock channel catfish each year. This survey will provide us with information on how to better balance these fish populations to meet anglers' preferences.

Boulder Mountain lakes
Anglers visit Boulder Mountain for a variety of reasons. Some want to catch a variety of fish species while others are after trophy-sized fish. This survey gives anglers an opportunity to quickly share their thoughts about why they visit Boulder Mountain fisheries and about how those fisheries should be managed.

[#000000]Those were some great surveys, I really enjoyed doing them. And there were some very good changes proposed. I especially liked the ones that would allow you to keep an extra limit of cleaned fish. That would help alot for trips down to Lake Powell and to catch and keep more catfish too. Thanks for the link. I did all the surveys.[fishin]

[cool][#0000FF]Glad you found them useful.

I applaud DWR's increased efforts to involve anglers in the formation of new regulations and to get their feedback on current management.

We may not always get everything we want but it is good to be able to submit your input.

Thanks for posting this - I just wanted to bump it back to the top. The more responses we get the better we can manage these waters for all of you.

Thanks for the post, I am a big fan of anything that will reach more anglers (more opinions). Will the results always go the way we would individually like? No. But it gives us the avenue to express our views without having to travel long distances, or try to fit a RAC meeting into our busy schedules. Thanks for the DWR coming to the 21st century and thinking out of the box. Maybe the federal government cant take note [Wink]

[#0000FF]Great surveys...bad timing. Putting up such an important post on a Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend is not the best way to get high readership or response.

Might take a couple more bumps to get more mileage.

What I have found out about past DWR surveys is if the respondents agree with the DWR agenda the Division is quick to point out how important and valid the survey is. But if the survey results don't go in the direction the DWR likes they are very quick to point out how unscientific and limited in scope the survey was.... Seems to me these surveys are used more to validate existing DWR agendas and current management philosophies.

[#0000FF]Of course you are entitled to your own opinion. But there is no guarantee that your opinion will radically change the biology or the benefits of any specific issue. Still, the current program of DWR soliciting opinions is a big step forward from past policy.

Can't help observing the irony of a biased and opinionated person accusing DWR of the same negative traits.

I took the survey right when it came out, maybe a week or two, I can't remember, but in the comment section I suggested they plant something other than planter trout and old beat up breeders in Wellsville dam. I suggested either some crappie or bass and guess what, they put about 1000 3.75 inch largies in there on the 13 of this month. I'm not saying they took my suggestion, perhaps they already had that planned, but I'd like to think that just maybe they actually read my suggestions and that it made a difference. Now if they would just put tigers into Cutlar my wishlist would be complete. I think they listen, IMO the fishing side of the DWR is way more open to suggestion than the hunting side so I'll take what I can get.
