Checked the Id. F & G fishing report site lately? Instead of giving reports as they used to do, they are now just kicking you over to this site. Don't know what to think of that. I always appreciated their reports, even if they did come sporatically. Thoughts? Mike

Hmmmm, I not sure what to think of that either. I appreciated the reports also even tho they were sporadic and........lackluster.
Clicked on it just now and it appears it depends on which region you are checking out. Some regions have no info, some have some info, some have just links here or other places, and some with info and links.
It seems the offices that didn't really post reports often anyways have thrown up the links or done nothing. I guess if they aren't going to post a report of some sort a link somewhere is better than nothing. At the same time, I know we are all busy and all.......but shouldn't someone be posting reports of some sort whether they gather the info from the field guys or however they do it if they offer a link for fishing reports?

Get use to it, you will start finding out that not only will the F & G use your reports but a lot of other locations, like local tackle shops. The good thing about it is, they will also listen to you when you complain about problems you see.

wow really well I think it sucks. For the most part lots contribute to the site and its members Now we have everyone who logs on to the fish and game site looking. I have no problems with folks who give and take but way to many take and don't even say thanks or give a report that may help others. Do we get on fish and games payroll for research ? lol[sly]

Try using idaho fish and hunt or idaho rod and reel. Generic reports sometimes but helpful

In case you haven't noticed, my reports lately have been very non-specific. I figure if someone wants specifics, then can PM me.
If they are a contributor, I might give out info.
As for F&G linking to this site and others as they have been, I see it as someone taking a paycheck for letting someone else do their job. It rubs me the wrong way.

I don't like it but it really changes nothing. Keep the details for the people who contribute. I have learned a lot from this board and thank everyone who has ever taken the time to pm me. I hope to be able to pay it forward.

Im not for it or against it, Utah DWR has been doing the same thing for a little bit now. Maybe who ever is in.charge of the IDFG site reports could at least pretend to.do their job and copy and past instead of just putting a direct link over. Some of the IDFG are great guys n gals that really do love their job and do everything they can to make the public experience as good as possible. Then again some of them only took the job because it was a pay check and a start to where they want to be.

BFT is only one of many resources for people to find out how the fishing is, and more people on BFT is not necessarily a bad thing. We just need to be careful of how specific we get.
F&G are just doing their job. It is nice that they do have a reports section. I think it's okay that they put up links to direct or more primary sources. In the past they would just repeat what they heard from some of those primary sources, so is this much different?
Each region has different fly shops and other places or forums that are special for that area. To me it is a logical public service that they have the links on the F&G site for people that are unfamiliar with the shops or area resources.
It is also impressive that they consider BFT a good source for information.

I am with wiperhunter2 on this. We could look at this as being a way for our voices to be heard in the F&G. Our state is becoming a Welfare Fishing state. SO what do I mean by that? The F& G plant only sterile fish. We have to rely on the F&G to plant our fish so we have something to catch. They want it this way to perpetuate the F&G. IF the people in charge of the F&G were here 40 years ago we would not have crappie catfish, bass, or a host of other species we now enjoy. I personally know a couple of F&G employees that would remove every non native species in the state.
I have spoken about this before and I will be up on my soap box from time to time. There is a lot of us that enjoy non native species. I would personally like to see a limit of some sort on them. We protect bass big time but they don't care a crap about cats, or crappie, or perch. I would like to see a limit on catfish in waters that are planted. I would like to see a 1 fish a day rule on catfish over 30" long. Flatheads are considered a trophy fish. It is about time they are treated as such. Only one fish a day over 25 or 30" long.
I know I sound very Anti- F&G but I am a Reservist. I have been for almost 20 years. I know things are rotten and even some people are rotten and things need to change. Ron
