Change Mac regulations?

I was wondering if I'm alone in wanting a change in Laker regualtions? I realize this is a pipe dream and the DNR will do whats best for each fishery. I would love to see a mandate of the immediate release of all lake trout over..I dunno "trophy" size lol. I personally let go anything over 10 as I find the little ones taste better and it takes a BIG laker (25-40lbs) many many years to get that big. Correct me if I'm wrong I think its one over 30 some inches now? So it prolly wouldnt change a fishery that much. I just hate seeing a beast at the marina. Turns my stomach. They're will always be the arguement that they can be a once in a lifetime fish. They want a skin mount. Thats a fine arguement. Let me provide a rebuttal. I don't care! LMAO. Get a replica that lasts forever. Let the big dogs go so your kids can catch him again. Ok go ahead BFT bite my head off []

Big fish weren't always big, others will take their place. The fish biologists know more than we do about the Macs. Most people do not keep them anyways. If they want a skin mount, its legal and their right to do so. Fake mounts mouths look screwed up, at least the ones I've seen do.

I might add that I'm in before the lock ha ha.

Absolutly lets change the regulations based on your opinion. In my opinion I am the only one that should get to fish in Utah so lets change the law to reflect that.
OR we can let the Fisheries folks do the job they are paid to do, if we start running the natural resources in this state based on our opinions or what each of us wants individually it will be a sorry day indeed.

Maybe they should just change it to a once in lifetime thing? You may keep ONE hog!! That is it.

Course then there is having to regulate it, and actually trying to keep track of who caught what etc. etc.

To mount a 30 costs close to $1000.00, so even if you caught a 40, not many guys would be willing to pay the tab to have it mounted if they already have one on the wall !! One thing to remember, once the get in the 30-40lb range, they are taking more out of the system that putting back. your prime spawners are in the 20lb range, so those are the ones that need protection. Best eating are the smaller up to 10lbers, so there is a lot of room for everyone in this fishery !!

How do you tell how old the fish is??? Further, why do you want old fish? I would much rather see large fish than old fish. Remember, with fish size is NOT determined by age. They are not mammals.

forget age. Think more about size. 20-30lb lake trout actually are easily replaced. And, who's to say that a 20-30 year old fish isn't only 19" long??

It's not age that you want to manage for, it's growth rates and size. That 30lb lake trout may not be as old as you think, and that 22" lake trout may be much older than you think.

I attached a nice report on Fish Lake lake trout -- it may help better understand what really happens under the surface.
